Best OC AMD XP or P4

Hi, I have been buying AMD processors for some time now and right now I'm building a new computer with XP1600+, that I hope to reach 1,8 GHz with. But I have been reading about how a lot of people are getting really high speeds with the new P4, so my question is which CPU is the best. Whith that I mean if you look at price, speed and so on, of course I guess that a P4 @ 2,53 GHz will be the fastest CPU, but the cost is also the greatest. So if you also look at all that and also which one is getting the best test marks, since speed by GHz is not all, I also seen that the P4 seems to get high memory scores, how important is that and when is the memory scores imortant. And can you guys show what systems you think will be the best, CPU, Ram and so on.

Thanks Micael

What do you plan on using your computer for? Games? Office suites? Benchmarks are one thing, but do not necessarily mean anything in terms of REAL world performance.

i've got my xp 1600+ at 166X10 at default voltage, as long as you get an agoia core, overclocking should be good, but it is true, the p4s overclock extremely well.

i'm not biased or anthing, i just saved a bit more money going with amd, but if i had themoney, i'd probably go p4 2.533 w/ 1066rdram and oc the fsb a bit get it above 3ghz

August 26 and Sep 1 are roomers of price cuts, the P4 2.53 should go down to around 250- P4 2.4b should go down to around 230-

For memery, Corsiar XMS 3200 CAS 2 is the best.... You could probly OC a 2.53 to 3Ghz+ with the right MB
In my opinion, the best CPU, RAM, ect. are
CPU: P4 2.53Ghz
RAM: Corsiar XMS Pc3200 Cas 2
Video Card: MSI/PNY/Xtasy GeForce 4 Ti 4600
Hard Drive: Western Digital 120 gig Caviar specail iditon: 8 meg cache
MB: Epox 4G4A+

Hope this helps 🙂

JMicaelK73,

I would suggest that you buy a Pentium 4 - 2533 at this moment, as prices have already begun dropping. I thought the $285 price at newegg was good, until I saw it for $256 over at googlegear. Here is the link for them:

Intel Pentium 4 - 2.53GHz, Retail box for $256

At that price, it is very hard to beat, no matter which current, present-day Athlon chip you use. For the rest of the components, I'd highly recommend and go with what Yeti101 has advised for you.

Hope this helps, and good luck 🙂

Thanks MetroRider, I'll just get this rig working and selling the other and hopefully the prices will be even greater then.😀
