Best nvidia Forceware for the Geforce 6800?

I'm installing some latest Forceware driver for my 6800, but when I play Halo or other game, the game keeps freezing/sound lag very frequently. But when I use the old 66.93 driver, then it's fine.

However, 66.93 is kinda old. I heard that the 77.72 is very good, is it true? What driver is best for a 6800 card? Thanks

I've been running the 77.77's for several months now (I believe) and haven't had any problems with them. Plus they enable Triple Buffering with Vsync, although that isn't of much value to you unless you run Vsync of course :p

I used the 66.93's for many months too a while back...they were great and I didn't have any problems with them either. I'm not really sure where to begin diagnosing your freezing/lag problems (the drivers themselves shouldn't cause that), but there's nothing really "wrong" with keeping your current (older) drivers if everything's working fine for you.

Me too, I don't know what's wrong with my computer's problem right now. I tried to play Fable with the old driver 66.93, then it would freeze the game. If I use the newest driver, then the game freeze with a sound lag for couple seconds. Do you think it's because of drivers conflict? Should I format my HDD and do a clean install of everything? This is really frustrating to me now.

You shouldn't necessarily have to do a format/clean install (although it couldn't hurt if you don't mind doing that sort of thing), but I'd start out with just trying to completely uninstall the drivers and running something like Driver Cleaner...

Yeah, I think you have to uninstall the current drivers first (and then reboot). It's hard to tell if it might actually be your card unless you have another system (or a friend's system) you could test it in.

Hey again. I just use the Driver Cleaner to clean the Nvidia driver, my old Ac' 87 audio driver. I also clean the nvidia WMD driver too, even though I don't know what WMD driver is. But anyway, I just install the new video driver 77.77 like you are using. I'll test in some game and let you know.

Now Halo doesn't freeze/sound lag anymore. However, Fable still give me that problem. Maybe it's Fable itself?

Hi again, do you think it's possible that my CPU is too hot that causes that?

I don't know, but SpeedFan read like this:

Temp 1: 38 C
Temp 2: -48 C
Temp 3: 39 C
Local Temp: 36 C
Remote Temp: 41 C

When I try to play some CPU heavy game, I see Temp 1, 3 and Remoate Temp that actually went up. Temp 2 just stay still at -48. So I don't think my CPU is at 48 C.

Do you think it's my video card that causes this? I even run 3Dmark and sometime it freeze too. So it's not Fable..
