Hello this is my first time posting on the forums and my friend told me to come here because you guys are the smartest of the smartest. I play Counterstrike source competitively and would like to know which graphics card i should get to boost my graphics. I would like to get the best nvidia agp gfx card that i can buy.

My current specs:

Intel Pentium 4 3.0Ghz
250 GB HD & 120 GB HD
1 GB Kingston Memory
Intel Motherboard
Geforce fx 5900 Ultra 256MB

I was thinking about getting the 7800GS OC from BFG what do u guys think? Will i see a large enough increase in FPS to spend $$ on it?

Yes you will, you have a pretty old card and for AGP either that or the ATI X850XT PE are the best way to go.

If i were you i would go with PCI-E video card. Just get a decent mobo and strap a nice 7900gt on there and you will be set. Going with AGP is just a wast of money.

You can get a 7900gt for like 280$ and a nice mobo for like 100$.

The best way to go -- people are generally very happy with eVGA. this has 430 on the core -- I'm sure the Gainward is great, but where to get it? I would also talk to some other people who have it first. eVGA, XFX, BFG are the best-known. IIRC, the main davantage of the Gainward is for its overclocking potential, which you may not want to bother with.

the gainward may be rare, but it has more pipes and a different core.

Do people feel that the 7800 is still warented depending on the P4? There are lots of 3ghz P4's out there with different FSB's and socket platforms.

My question was more allong the lines of what do people think about AGP on a system that usses some of the older P4 variants.

The gainwood 7800gs+ blows all other agp cards away.. it has a g71 core so u could easily get 7900gt speed without changing your board and it has 512 memory instead of the normal 256. My mates runs 550mhz core and 1.4ghz memory no problems. My mate uses a P4 3.4ghz and it goes fine with it..

There are one or two distributers (I believe in the UK) that will sell (and ship) you a Gainward 7800GS, but it's pretty darn expensive.

See this thread for more details. Look for posts by "AMD Fan", as he is in the U.S. and he ordered one from a UK company.

Nice thread. Yeah, it looks expensive to the point of impracticality, especially for those of us in the US.

OTOH, my rare-hardware-acquisition twitch is kicking into high gear. You know -- I still have an AGP rig somewhere with a 9800 pro in it.... That Gainward looks pretty, and even comes with an NV Silencer. When was the last time you saw an nvidia card with a red PCB?

What sort of FSB does that system have?
