Best NV upgrade from a Radeon 9600?

looking to pump some more performance out of my box for WoW, and my graphics card is the one thing really holding me back.

it's been suggested by a number of people I play with that I should go with a NV card, but I'm not really sure what any of the numbers on their product line mean since I've only really followed ATI card for any length of time (ie: I know the difference betwen a 9600, 9700, and 9800 in terms of performance/value, but I have no clue what the difference between a 6600GT and a 6800 is).

any suggestions? I'm currently running a 9600Pro, so it'll have to be an AGP card.

The best bang for your buck will probably be a 6600GT, or if you want to spend the money, a 6800GT. A 6600GT easily is better than a 9800XT in almost anything for comparison's sake.

Faster than a 9600 in order of smallest gain to largest:
("-----" means that there is a fairly substaintial leap)

6600
------
6600GT
6800
------
6800GT
6800Ultra
-----
7800GTX

An overclocked 6600 is probably about equivalent to an overclocked 9800 pro

I think an X800XL would keep your computer gaming ready for at least the next little while. You see a cheap one ($250ish) once in a while.

I don't think a 9800 Pro is that weak.

Where does the 6200 really fit in when the FX's and Radeon 9xxxx's are being compared to each other? It's actually faster than the FX 5900? How does it compare to the "plain" or non pro Radeon 9600?

Video hasn't been something I've kept up with as well as I might have done, if there were more good games of the sort that appealed to me . . (which doesn't include anything that typifies what I consider console play, such as shooters).

I have a couple of FX's, and a couple of the GF-4 Ti's. The last ATI anything I had was a Rage Pro 128, with either 16 MB or 32 MB on board.

I don't think it's a matter of that, I think it's a matter of underestimating just how much a 6600 can be overclocked. ~450-500 MHz is typical on the core, so the 6600 generally has an advantage on core speed, plus it handles SM2.0 more efficiently than the R3xx core. The 9800 Pro has the memory speed advantage, but in modern games, especially SM2.0 games, memory throughput is a less important factor than the core. I don't think they are as far apart as you think they are.
