Best notebook display

I have had several Dell notebooks in the past, and am trying to decide on what to purchase next. I started off wanting a 12" display that I could take everywhere easily, and have looked at everything up to a 17" Sager heavy powerhouse.
I have read thousands of reviews and threads.
More than anything, I would like the absolute best display quality. Not necessarily the fastest video, but the best looking overall video. Sharpest, best brightness and contrast. I know this is said of some of the Apple's, but I am not about to buy an Apple notebook.
For example, recent reviews of the eMachine's Athlon 64 notebook said, basically "not the best display."
I think that most flat panel display's look about the same, with few exceptions. I do not like the Sharp's and others that put a coating of plastic on top of the display to increase contrast. The downside of these displays is that you can see yourself reflected in them, which I don't like. I don't want to use a notebook as a mirror!!
It does not have to be the absolute highest resolution display either, as I do not want tiny text.
Anyhow, your opinions would be more than welcome. If you mention a product and can point me to a link with a review, great, if not (if it is personal opinion) that is fine also. Don't worry, I am not trying to start a flame war, and I am definately not trolling, just looking for opinions that I otherwise could not find.
If you think they are all the same, feel free to state that also.
Thanks!

ok, take a look at emachines if you don't mind the brand name. I hear they've improved a lot. I saw some at Best Buy and I thought the displays looked pretty good. If you can get the 5309/5312 it's about $1000
but it's widescreen.

for 12" it's gonna be hard to get a cheap one bec you'll pay a huge premium for the small size. if you aren't in a hurry, maybe another IBM deal will come around, like that x31 for $999 a while back

I started out thinking about a 12" display. Basically, I gave up on tiny because they are (obviously) less powerful. Currently, I am fine with anything from 15" to 17". The two reviews I read of eMachines notebooks called the displays "just average". I just got back from looking at CompUSA, and the SONY's now all have the plastic GLARE screen overlays (as opposed to anti-glare, these are MORE GLARE!!) Yes, it improves the contrast, but I don't want to see myself in the display!! The Toshiba's have a glare bezel around the screen, and are unimpressive. HP/Compaq's are kinda (yawn) boring. There is nowhere to see any IBM without ordering one. I am about to join those that say that the displays are all about the same.
