i just bought a notebook and now i am in search of a good backpack to buy. i've been looking around cc and compusa for a good backpack at a reasonable price. what i've notice is that these packpacks are almost all the same, except they differ from looks and style... so as a notebook backpack purchasing nob, what features should i look for when choosing a good notebook backpack>?

Definitely check out ebags.com.

I just ordered a Timberland Gully from there for my new T43 and received great service all-around.

I'll get Kensington SaddleBag Sport, since its waterproof (I ride a yamaha R6 in the summer and who know when its going to rain).

good luck

I have some kind of SwissGear I got at BBY a while back for my T42. The pocket in it is huge, too big for my 15" T42 but just right for a 15.4" notebook. Other than that I love it. There's a "CD player" pocket at the top with headphone wire holes in it so easy access, but I just use that to store my AC adapater. Reasonable room for books, acceptable # of extra pockets. Overall a decent bag; not mind blowing but practical.

We just got a Booq backpack in the labs and will have a review up sometime in the future

I use the Targus matrix. Nice laptop bag that has dropped down to as low as $30 on amazon.

It fits my M70 like a glove and has room for a few hefty text books, QC2 and anything else I need when I fly.

One nice thing about the matrix, you can get a version without any annoying targus logos, just look for "no logo" or "west point edition". Unlike the mail version which has targus everywhere, on every zipper, and on the back, the "no logo" eddition is just all black, very nice.

SwissGear Maxxum is very good, approx. $60

i really like the swiss gear line up as well

 not only IMO it feels more durable out of the backpacks I have seen (they all look like modified college/high school backpacks) but they look durable and the bag I have fits my inspiron 6000 nicely. Has great shoulder pads and back pads in addition as well. Dont expect to tout a library full of books with the lappy though but it can fit a decent amount of things in addition to a notebook.

My main objection to the Swiss Gear line is some of their more expensive models use a plastic latch to secure the laptop pouch instead of a Velcro strap. There doesn't seem to be as much padding directly behind the latch so it seems that if you have some heavy books in the backpack resting up against the latch, it will exert extra pressure on the laptop in that one spot.

I'll be getting a 15.4" laptop soon, and I live in Florida, so the threat of a sudden thunderstorm is always looming. What is a nice waterproof laptop backpack? I've heard some names tossed around like Kensington and Swiss Gear...any others? What is a good place to buy a bag...at a retail store like Best Buy, or online?
