Best Non-RPG to show off the 8800GTX

I am building a gaming PC after a long time with the 8800GTX and I haven't been playing much of games these days and want to get back into it. I don't play RPGs. So what would be the best FPS out there that will look awesome on my new card and of course give me a good game play? I have already played Half life 2 and Doom 3. So I am looking at something different.

Thanks,

Gears of War... oh wait. 😛

Seriously, try Flight Simulator X. There is also Need for Speed Carbon. And since you asked not to mention RPGs I won't mention NWN2, Gothic 3 or Oblivion heh. Apparently Company of Heroes is quite good looking. But obviously you are looking for shooters, and there hasn't been anything out recently to test the 8800GTX. Crysis is still 12 months away it looks like, so you will have to settle for games like F.E.A.R. and Prey.

Unfortunately I think that F.E.A.R. has a ****** engine, though it has been patched to utilize dual core systems. Prey really shows the short comings of the Doom III engine, with ugly textures up close and weird looking open environments.

Splinter Cell: Double Agent is good looking but extremely buggy. Oh I know what! You can try Rainbow Six: Vegas. I am a massive R6 fan, but that was back in the day when it wasn't consolized. I am not sure how heavy it is on the tactics, but is apparently gorgeous looking.

I think they OP wasted his money.
The only game that currently needs a 8800GTX is Oblivion (if you want max resolution and detail and excellent frame rates).

Neverwinter Nights 2 needs it as well, but thats more due to poor coding and implementation of the engine, not the high quality of the graphics. Once they get some of the bugs worked out it should run much smoother.

As far as games that the OP likes and need the fastest available cards: Crysis and UT2007 are not out yet and those are the only ones I can think of.

I need to save up for a better monitor. Not happening in the immediate future. Hmm...maybe I should try RPGs. Never played them before.

Hmm.. I still haven't taken the GTX. You guys are making me think again, I will post for suggestions in another section. Thanks for the inputs.

indeed, sacrilege I say.

Playing Oblivion at 1600x1200+, thats why I bought one.... For every other game sofar, even for Medieval 2 its been complete overkill even at 1600x1200 maxxed. The only way I keep my card not bottlenecked(on my ancient AMD processor) is by pushing the AA as high as possible (resolution as high without refresh eyebleed).

I don't think there is a game on the planet cept simulator X that you couldn't play maxxed with AA at 1280x1024 with a $250 x1900XT 256mb.
