Hi

I am building a pc for my roomate.

He for sure wants a P4 cpu, he is most likely going to go with the 2.6mhz. I have been away from the
hardware sites for a little bit now, so i do not know what is the best option for a motherboard if the person
does not want to overclock at all. Should i go with a Abit/Asus board if im not overclocking at all?

He will have a antec case, antec 380w psu, 512-1gig of ram, Audigy 2 plat, and i am not sure on the graphics card yet.

thanks for any suggestions.

Look at the Abit IS7. Cost is pretty good and has a lot of useable options

If you wait another couple weeks then look at boards with the new 655FX chipset. Will be fast, cheap, and have a pile of options.

And for graphics, get a ATI 9500 or higher card. Don't go Nivida, DX9 problems

Gigabyte has a new board out, the GA-8S655FX, about $85 shipped at PcDirectsource, listed on pricewatch. This new chipset has dual ddram and 800 fsb support. Check out the specs on it, if you want sata hardrive support, which it may not have. Most people won't pay extra for sata yet, and the performance and reliability don't justify the higher price.
