I'm thinking about building a new system and I have a couple P4 coolers in mind. I plan to get a 2.8C 800mHz FSB processor. I might do a little overclocking but not much. Here is what i'm currently interested in:

Thermaltake SubZero4G
Zalman CNPS7000

Let me know if there are any others which are quiet and perform well. Price should be less than $150.

Thanks,

I recently installed my Zalman CNPS7000, it works like a dream. Quiet as a gentle summer's breeze, yet powerful as a raging tornado. Damn I'm good :D

If I move my computer a lot (lan parties) would you recommend the AlCu version over the Cu only version?

Thanks,

Alcu is made of aluminum and copper (only the middle fins are copper) while cu is all copper and very heavy (773grams vs 445grams).

While there isn't a huge difference in performance between the two, there isn't much of a difference in price either.

Yeah I would recommend getting the CuAl. The Cu version is a tiny bit better, but its a very marginal difference. A comparison chart for the two versions was included in my Cu unit, if you want I can go find the manual and post it on here. I kind of wish I would have gotten the CuAl version now, I cringe at the thought of reinstalling that FHS after moving

Anyone have specs on the new P4 800 stock cooler? What size fan does it use? Can it be replaced? Thanks

SleepyGreggy,

I think the HSF that came with my 2.6C is the same that comes with the 2.53B's and other CPU's. It has the incorporated fan that is clipped onto the heatsink. Don't think it can be removed without some modding. It looks a bit smaller than 80mm fans, so maybe it is 70mm (I don't have any 70mm fans for comparison).

phpguru, et al.,

I am currently using a Swiftech MCX4000 and a 92mm Panaflo L1 to cool my chip. It runs at about 42C idle. I am still working on the cooling/lighting in my new case, so I may replace the fan with a 92mm UV reactive one instead.
