Best noise-isolating earbuds that are sub-$50?

Dankk

I ride the bus up to school Monday-Wednesday-Friday, and the commute is an hour long. Lately I've been listening to a lot of music on my phone. Unfortunately, the only portable earbuds I have are my stock Zune earbuds, which are mediocre. The main reason I'm coming here though is that they don't block out any outside noise, which is a serious problem because them bus engines are loud, no? At least, the buses we have here are very loud. Of course I could just turn my volume up higher but then I just end up damaging my ears.

What do you guys recommend? If you can show me something on Amazon that's $50 or less and great for taking on the bus, I'd really appreciate it. I was thinking those types of earbuds that are rubbery and go into your ear canal, in my experience those usually have better noise isolation, but then again what do I know. Whatever works. Thanks.

Thanks, I'll definitely take a look at those. I mainly listen to electronic, a little heavier bass doesn't hurt.

And yes, I've learned not to buy Skullcandy (the hard way unfortunately). Bought one of their special headsets with a built-in MP3 player, and got burned when it died after about two months. Never again.

There's an enormous iem review thread by ljokerl in headfi's portable section. I would link to it but I'm on a phone right now. You can most likely do better than the sennheisers linked up ahead.

Wow, that really is an excellent thread, thanks for the info. (Link here)

I have the Vmoda Faze. Pretty happy with them, especially for under $20 online. I bought them because I had an accessory credit that I HAD to use on the spot when I picked up my Evo, and Radio Shack was selling them for $50. I would not pay $50 for them.

Keep in mind what I linked to is the cx 300 II, not just the cx 300. They're an improved version of what I consider to be the best sounding phones for ~$30. I find most headphones don't pay enough attention to the low end. I like my bass punchy and not muddy, so these are a much better option for me. Sound quality is one of the most personal things that people try to quantify. There's really never a "best" in any category because so much changes depending on your ears and genre of music. It's why I try to stay away from any single score (like the head-fi thread). People just hear different so it's hard to know if you hear the same as me, or the head-fi guy.
