An Intel Pro 1000 CT desktop card would be my current pick in the budget replacement, I have it's predecessor a Pro 1000 PT and it's been good for 5+ years and they still support it and keep its drivers up to date.

If the board is stable, a replacement NIC would be fine. My home media servers motherboard NIC has been dead for 2 years.

I'd try to go intel and PCI-E.

RealTek is ok and if on a budget definitely fine.

We are talking $10 vs $30 though...while only $20 difference the percentages don't scale with bang for buck.

I rely on solid NIC's...I go Intel.

No idea why people say that... I have never had issues with broadcom, had some cases where they out performed Intel and were just as feature rich. Only issue I had with one was doing Jumbo frames on a ToE card which I found out later was not supported anyway.
