Hi,

I'm leaving for college in about a month and was wondering which NIC I should get. I've heard both good and bad about 3com, intel, and netgear. Which one do you think i should get? Thanks in advance.

a d-link or a linksys. they are both inexpensive, and will give you just as good of results as the others for surfing the web with your T1 connection. :)

Can't go wrong with the Netgear FA310TX. I found in my experience any network card will do in a home/personal system. My $5 CNet is kicking strong after 1 1/2 years and has better driver support than any card I know. I could fry 10 of these and still com out ahead of the Intels and 3COMs.

I personally have linksys, which I think is great... easy setup, good quality. But I have heard good things about other brands like Netgear and 3com too... Any one of those would be good for your application.

dlink, linksys or netgear. if you really want to waste your money, 3com or intel. but you want that extra $$$ for college. you'll need it.

3com makes the best, and you get charged for it.

Well the difference between a 3com and netgear is relatively insignificant ($30 at most?). I don't mind spending the extra cash, after all, I went all out on the system I just built (scsi w/ X15 and the works :)) I've just heard that 3com's NICs have annoying icons in the system tray. Thanks for suggestions, i'll continue to do research.

Don't bother with the expensive NIC's like 3COM...I use Linksys in all of my systems and they work just fine. Try the LNE100TX. Very inexpensive and works great.

Another vote for D-Links. After installing over 60 of them I'd say they are good. Work like a charm in Windows, Linux and FreeBSD that interest me.
