I'm looking at a new board for my friend, with onboard graphics. He's on a budget, so probably under $120. I've been lokking at the MSI K7N2G-L, and also the Epox ERGA+. ARe there any others that I should be looking at? Oh yeah, he wants onbard LAN, USB 2.0, an 6-channel audio also. A Soundstorm port would be nice, but not completly nessacary.

MSI K7N2G-LISR

IGP, Soundstorm, onboard LAN/Firewire/SATA, TV-out...not the best for overclocking, but from what I've seen, none of the IGP boards do that well.

Not sure if you can get one for <$100.

second that--i just ordered this board and will crack it open this weekend. it has the Soundstorm audio, SATA & PATA RAID, firewire, TV out (s-video and RCA). if this sucker had dual VGA it would be friggin' perfect! also has bluetooth for what's the worth and a pretty red PCB and cool chipset HSF. i am not really enamored with MSI quality but this board is stacked!

edit:
$131 + $5 shipped @ newegg

Andy is the FAQ keeper...

Could you provide a link/source to his comments? I'd be interested in *why* he said that. My evaluation criteria are certainly different than his. BTW, I don't think the MSI board is the *best*, but it fits as "best" for certain people with a given criteria.

The Abit is 126 at newegg...a little too pricey, especially compared to the MSI K7N2G-L at barely over 100.

hey, unless you are a balls-out overclocker or memory speed freak, the MSI K7N2G-LISR is awesome. it is the most feature-rich IGP board out there (with the exception of dual VGA which would really rule). i just set mine up and everything works great. this is a perfect setup for my little brother's birthday. i tossed in a 1700+, changed the FSB from 133 to 166, and didn't even have to up the voltage from 1.5 to make this baby stable. 1.83GHz with 166MHz FSB from two PC2100 crucial sticks and a $50 1.47GHz AthlonXP ain't too bad =)

the msi board is good one and cheap....the only problem is that they don't make it for overclockers.....or else:D
