I have to replace my DOA 8RDA+ with another board and I am looking at the NF7-S. What does everyone recommend and WHY?

I'm looking for stability and O/C'ing potential.

I need to order it quickly so please respond as soon as possible! Thanks

And you're positive that the EPoX is DOA, versus maybe a build problem? The reversed-heatsink issue is definitely #1, skimpy/low-quality PSU is #2, incorrect USB3-header usage is probably #3... 😛

I have tried everything imaginable including changing CPU's, Video Cards, PSU's, memory different kinds in different slots, checking and reseating connections, disconnecting all components, isolating the board from the case, clearing the CMOS etc, etc, etc, etc..... I'm done.....

That's a bummer. 🙁 And you've got the heatsink on the right way? I imagine you've been over that already, but some people don't realize the heatsink AND the clip are both asymmetrical 😛 I did have an 8RDA+ of my own, which died a mysterious death one day 😕 so I know all the frustrations you're referring to... been there, done that 🙁 I'm not saying EPoX isn't good, but mine wasn't! 😛

Based on peoples' remarks, the Abit board seems to be a winner. I have the Asus now, and it's treating me fine too (no overclocking, it's a hard-working office workstation).

You must be referring to the step in the CPU heatsink? Yes, I have the step placed correctly and in the case of my SK-7 the clip is preinstalled so it cannot be positioned backwards.

Yeah the Epox was wonderful unl it just went "POOF." By the way you (mechBgon) were one of the reasons I initially decided on the 8RDA+. Fortunately for me I purchased it at NewEgg and I talked with a great Rep today who is willing to help me out.

But Back to the topic....Clock is ticking!!!

Sorry to hear I steered both of us poorly 🙁 I think they might've had a bad batch or a funky BIOS release. Good luck with your new board, whatever you pick!

For $114.95 shipped 2nd day from Googlegear the NF7-S is my top pick

Well, it's looking like the NF7-S is getting the most votes.... Only a few hours left to either sway or finalize my decision!!! Thanks for all your input so far...I look forward to getting some more.

NF7-S has some layout issues, compared to A7N8X's *almost* perfect layout.

Performance, stability and o/c wise, they are at the same level.

Well folks, it's a done deal. I ordered the Abit NF7-S. As I was deliberating I realized that the one computer that has not given me any problems in several years is also based on an ABIT mainboard (KT-7 RAID.) So... that in combination with the recommendations sealed the deal.

I must admit I was tempted to just stick with another 8RDA+ because the transition would have been much easier. I also almost went with the Asus A7N8X because so many people are using this board in sheer numbers (all the negative comments about their tech support swayed me away
Asus is headquartered in hell and run by the devil.
....but I decided to take a chance and go with my gut feelings as well. I hope I fare well.

Thanks again & I'll be sure to let you know how the project proceeds....besides I'm sure I'm going to need some advice from all of you professionals again!

Thanks Again!

Best Regards,
Stephan

good choice. the only gripe i had was the broken SATA RAID but that affected all nForce2 mobos and has been resolved with the newest BIOS. make sure you have the latest BIOS if you are going to be using SATA RAID. awesome board otherwise. my 1700+ and NF7-S (the old v1.1 too) are at 10x200 at stock voltage and the dual raptors in RAID 0 are screaming fast!
