I currently have a A7N8X Deluxe vers 1.04 and want to go for a Ultra 400 and was looking at these boards:

Asus A7N8X Deluxe 2.0
Abit NF7-S 2.0
MSI K7N2 Delta- ILSR

Which of these is the best for overclocking and stability? And which has a lot of bios tweaking?????
:)

Thanks all,

Hahahaha, I was just there and noticed that myself.....
Looks like a toss-up of the newer version of what I have and the Abit NF7-S 2.0

That would be a decent board if it had more than one SATA conector, kinda lame imo.

Actually, that DFI is kind of growing on me, I guess I could always buy a SATA pci card but the board itself is pretty spendy

I like my Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro a LOT. Very nice board, great features, and (for me) pretty future-proof.

i like the dfi board. the only drawback for me was that you cant use sata and ide raid at once. but i can deal with that. has lots of good tweaking features in terms of voltage changes and setting each of the buses independently. it has proved nice and stable. im running an xp1700+ @ 185mhz, 12.5x mult. i say go for it and sell the frontx and other accessories if you dont want em, which will help make up some of the cost.

I had the A7N8X-Deluxe, rev. 1.04. It ran at 200MHz FSB. It was very stable.
Now I have the NF7-S. It runs at 220MHz FSB with the same parts on it. It is also very stable.

Ouch, just found out that the DFI one uses the c-media sound and not Nvidias Realtek with Soundstorm and that if you use the ONE sata port it dissables the Primary IDE when in use!!!!!!!!! What were they thinking!!!!!!!!!!!! That could have been one cool board.

How about the EPoX 8RDA+? It seems like it has everything that Abit NF7-S and Asus A7N8X Deluxe have but the price is $40 cheaper. Any comments?

broken: i believe you have two dfi boards mixed up. the kt400 uses the cmedia while the nf2ultra uses realtek. but yeah the sata thing isnt too cool, but i wont be usin it for a while anyways so ill prob just get an add-on controller.

I stand corrected Tekno82. Thanks for pointing that out..... wish I would have saw that earlier. Oh well, I wnt ahead and bought that Gigabyte one since it was the only one I could get in town and the Anand review like it. I don't think i will use the extra IDE's any way and It seems to work awesome. My asus A7N8X Del wouldn't run my Barton 3000 at 400 fsb but this does like a champ. Everything seems to be working fine. Just waiting for a bios update

Why isn't the Epox EP-8RDA3+ mentioned? I'm trying to decide between the Abit NF7-S rev2.0, Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro, and the Epox EP-8RDA3+. They are all similarly priced at NewEgg and all but the 8RDA3+ feature SoundStorm audio. The Gigabyte does have SATA and IDE Raid and GigaBit Ethernet, but that wouldn't be of use to me and most others. Overall, these three boards seem to have similar performance, features, and price. Are the issues regarding the Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro true? Which of these three do I buy? Between the 8RDA+ and 8RDA3+ it seems like the only difference, besides the $40 price difference, is a small bit of performance and SATA? Can someone dispell my misconceptions please? Currently I'm thinking, that the Gigabyte's slight advantage in features would lead to it being chosen, but I'm probably not accounting for all things and someone mentioned issues with it.

The 8rda3+ has the advantage of adjustable VDD. But I like soundstorm, so that board would not be an option for me. The NF7-S rev.2 is turning out be be the best overclocking board.

for anyone considering the Asus A7N8X Deluxe 2.0, talk to some people who have tried to RMA w/ asus. there are some horror stories
