Best Newsgroup Server Service

Spooner

Lifer
I like the options that let you buy a certain amount of GB for a set fee. My newsgroup usage is off and on and I don't want to have to constantly download each month to substantiate my fees.

I currently use news.astraweb.com that was $10 for 25gig. Not a bad service, but limited in terms of how much they keep online (not sure the exact, but I get "Post Purged" for many things I go to download that is over a week old).

Suggestions?

Giganews has some HELALCIOUS retention [60 days], but will throttle you eventually.
Usenetserver has 1/3rd the retention [20 days], but doesn't throttle.

Slow down your transfers artificially.

newshosting.com is just like usenetserver but with slightly longer retention.. 23 days I think. Same $15/month for unlimited

Newzbin is not a usenet service, its just an indexing service.

Usenetserver gets my vote
used this a bit last night

All I can say is WOW! Love it love it love it

newshosting also only allows 4 simulatneous connections, while usenetserver allows 6....

i just swtiched to newshosting because usenetserver kept having server issues and woudln't let me in for days

I actually re-upped another $10 into Astraweb.

Not a fan of the paltry 15 day retention, but my speeds are good and I've yet to find another server that allwos for a one-time fee for a specified amount of downloads.

I do not want to pay monthly.

I use easynews. I don't download too often, but their retention is good and their speeds are great. I consistently get 1.8MB/sec at work, so I queue up my downloads at home and you can download the queues when you're somewhere else.

Damn, Comcast's netnews has R.I.P.

Can i get an unlimited account in newshosting or giganews and share it with a couple people?

that site slycke lists easynews has rollover gbs... with an asterisk... spent about 10 min bet. the site, and easynews, trying to find out more info... none exists.

this has been one problem with easynews, 10gb or 30days, whatever comes first.. use or lose. newshosting has a 60gb use or lose, 6 months. I think that gives you more freedom. in 6 months, there will be some quiet months, and some busy months, so you'll use accordingly.
