Hey,
I have used Micro Planet Gravity since christ was a child but suddenly Gravity stopped retrieving most groups. I'm looking for a simple news reader--not an nzb app- just a down loader for text and binaries--not Outlook either. NewsBin looks ok but I wonder what youz all might suggest ?
Thx,

I use Pan on my Windows and Linux computers. It's very easy to use and works very well. I still browse newsgroups a couple times a week.
Anyway, here's a link so you can check it out.

I forgot too ask but are you sure it's your reader that's messed up and not your provider? A quick and easy way to tell would be to sign up for an account over on Eternal September. It's free all you have to do is register and they send you a password to access their servers. It's only text based posting but it would give you an idea.
Just a thought.

Newsbin Pro is hands down the best newsgroup program out there for binaries. There is no program that even comes close.

Yes I have verified the source of the problem. We had a burial of Gravity yesterday--an ol buddy put to rest
It fought the good fight, finished the race, kept the faith.

It seems like a huge upgrade to Gravity: ssl, multiple connections, hides group names (lol) and d/l and executes nzbs. Yeah.

Really Shemes? That was the first reader I tried when I got into text based reading. It seemed overly complicated and the free trial left this horrible spam after every post I made.

--------------= Posted using GrabIt =----------------
------= Binary Usenet downloading made easy =---------
-= Get GrabIt for free from http://www.shemes.com/ =-

I'm kinda curios why you guys think proprietary software is the way too go? Free and open source readers like Pan can do the same things especially considering the OP wasn't interested in nzb apps like SAB.

EDIT:Maybe I misunderstood what the OP was looking for. Are you guys still manually dl'ing the headers from groups like a.b.teevee?

Weird...I had tried a couple other ones (don't remember which) a long time ago and found GrabIt to be the least complicated. Now I'm just used to it. I don't worry about the add-on spam it creates...since I really never post to any groups.

I do manually dl the headers though, like deustroop.

OK that makes more sense. I did misunderstand what deustroop was looking for. Pan can do it but yes Newsbin and similar programs are a lot easier.

I thought you were talking about text based posting in groups like alt.home.repair or alt.comp.os.windows-10.
Sorry about the confusion.....
