Looking to get a cheap (<$400) netbook to run OS X and potentially do some iPhone dev. I need the standard stuff to work (audio, trackpad, wifi). I need at least 1024x600. Would like something with a decent (92%?) keyboard and good battery life. Looked at the MSI Wind U123, but I'm not sure if it's entirely compatible and I've heard the trackpad doesn't have a scrolling area.

Dell Mini 9 has been discontinued. You can still get a Vostro A90, which is basically an all jet-black Mini 9.

OS X runs absolutely beautiful on this. It goes on sale every month or two for ~$250 which includes 1gb ram, 16gb ssd, webcam, bluetooth. Sale price is about $75 off normal price. Great deal for a netbook hackintosh.

You can also get Mini 9's and A90's from Dell Outlet.

The Mini 9 seems just a little too small, and they really screwed up the keyboard arrangement.

boingboing has a compatibility chart that will tell you which ones are the most compatible.

I know that dell is releasing a newer 10" netbook that has basically the same guts as the Mini9, but with an actual hard drive, so it should be quite hack-able.

Prices in the Apple refurb store seem to have come down somewhat: http://store.apple.com/us/brow...ldeals/mac?mco=MTE3NjY

I think I remember seeing the white Macbook for $750 recently. Old gen Mac Mini with combo drive were $419.

(don't know if they include free Snow Leopard upgrade option yet)

edit: just read $400 budget, so I guess it really would be old gen Mac Mini or Hackintosh.

The netbook hackintosh is just as slow as an old ibook G4. I would get a $600 XPS M1330 instead of netbook.
