Hi,
Im new to pc tech. Looking for best security option for running basic 2mb BB connection. Currently got ISP modem using Ethernet ( is USB modem a better safer option and can I request this from my ISP and have it installed ), I been reading and some articles state ethernet mode is outdated and wide open to outside eyes, what other options can I take that ISP will support?

Heard about Wifi, is going wireless is this something I should look at, I read Wifi or going wireless opens doors for unwelcome outside elements. What is the practical steps to take to employ a Wifi setup, does speed improve and what costs are involved? This is a single pc home user setup. Any other modes of connecting to my ISP Id gladly like to read about.

Lastly what are the must do's for my filesys to minimize outside attacks...links appreciated.

Alll good advice welcome,

Berne

This is the typical set up for almost any home network setup.

MODEM ----- (Ethernet) --- > router -----(Ethernet/wireless)---> PC's

It is not very common to use the USB from the modem...at least not that i've heard of. I would use WPA2 encryption with your wireless, if you do plan to setup the wireless. If you think wireless is a too big of a security risk, you could just Ethernet from your router to your PC.
