Best name brand pc

That is a very subjective question. You need to specify purpose and usage and price limits. Does name brand mean "off the shelf" in on line stores or local retail shops? Maybe quantify "best" to mean best value, or absolute best technology. It's a big difference.

Yeah... the question is way too vague. The "best" in terms of highest quality or ease of use would go to Apple, but "best" in terms of price would probably go to Dell.

What's your budget?
Dell, HP & Acer/Gateway are the 3 biggest sellers in the U.S. Keep in mind that there's also further differentiation into Home & Business class machines. Business class machines would be somewhat better quality, but also more expensive. Keep track of discounts and/or limited-time-use coupons on FatWallet.com or SlickDeals.com.

As others have remarked: need more info to better comply with your request.

Overall, it would probably be Apple, but it's a very limited company, certainly compared to the sprawling lines of HP and Dell. You can buy only a handful of models, which are what Steve wants, not necessarily what customers want (xMac?). They have the best design, sometimes the best construction, and almost inevitably the best support. However, if you drill down through surveys, you'll note that reliability isn't that much better than many PC brands -- it's just that if something does go wrong, their support is rated as markedly superior.

But to reiterate: there are many categories of systems (gaming machines being perhaps the most prominent) that simply don't exist within the Apple ecosphere.

What kind of PC you want?
Desktop
Laptop/notebook Mobile or desktop replacement

Then what do you want to do with your PC?
E-Mail
Watch Video
Play Games
Office Work
Databases
Photoshop
Video Editing
Day Trading
CAD/CAM Design
Programming

If someone had an idea what you want to do they could point you in the right direction. Some people want to spend $500.00 and some $5,000.00 Some people want a Notebook to sit in one location and some people want a notebook to take back and forth to work or school or gaming events. Than some people just want to check E-mail and or play poker online.

I think Dell makes some good basic computers. I like the way they sell some of them at Wal-mart, as well as on-line.

You also want to think about monitors. A flat-panel LCD HD screen is great for watching movies or on-line video.

Brand Name and Best are contradictory terms.

You can ask which is the Brand name that is best for its stock holder, or Best for its marketing, then there might be an answer.

On the other hand if you just want a PC that does what a PC suppose to do (as oppose to PC that is a social symbol), log to Dell or HP and get something that is within your budget.
