best MPEG editor?

I'm starting to try recording TV shows on my computer with my AIW Radeon. I'm capturing to VCD format so I can burn then on VCD's sometime later down the road. Right now, I'm just recording everything including commercials so I don't have to be on the constant lookout to pause and unpause during commercial breaks. I'm just wondering what was the best MPEG editor out there for me to edit out the commercials. I've tried VCD Cutter and MPEG Tools but was wondering if there were better ones out there?
