Best mp3 player under 120...

I like sonys compression, but hate their software... can someone suggest a good mp3 player that uses a similar compression, and lasts a good while on battery and can load lots of songs? Thanks!

For under 120? I don't think that there are very many players that have a gig for under 120...

Sony uses Atrac3. No one else.

For the price, The Transcend, PNY, and Sandisk players are about it. None are exactly know for quality, but of them, Sandisk's should be OK. I have seen nothing about Transcend's.

Stretch your budget a little bit ($125-$140 shipped), and you can get the Creative (MP3, WMA) and iAudio (MP3, WMA, Ogg Vorbis) flash players (avoid the G2, BTW--USB 1.1). Mainly, the N200, I5, U2, and G3. All of these four players are of good quality (I'm partial to the I5 🙂).

CC had the Sandisk sansa 2 gig for 129. I picked it up. Gonna see how much i like it. It doesnt support ogg vorbis... but it does support mp3 and wma. Which one is the best compression? I would think mp3... but i may be wrong.

Generally, WMA can compress more than MP3 and still retain somewhat decent quality.

I'm still using a 128MB MP3 player, and I convert my higher bitrate (256kbps+) MP3s to 128kbps WMAs for use in my player. I use the player only for exercise, so music quality isn't a big deal to me. Although, even after converting from MP3, the 128kbps WMAs still sound good, IMHO.

You might have to recheck your numbers. $120 dollars is a small budget. You would need to come up with twice that amount to get something DECENT

None of them have better universally compression than any other. MP3 better for battery life, though. Just take the time to listen, and figure out what you want/need.

Good deal; and it should be easy to return if you dislike it.

Friend bought a Sandisk 1gb unit based on my recommendations, but within two weeks it was stolen from his locker (big mistake leaving it there). While he had it, he didn't complain about a thing. The interface isn't as idiotproof as most of the good units I have toyed with, but it is flat out damn cheap for the price.

Oh man, Black Friday at Fry's there was a Sony 4 gig player for $125? Or was it bigger? Regardless, it was quite the deal.
