Best mp3 player to get besides ipod?

I have an old Sony MD which is starting to break down because the cover is coming off and I can't move it around without the sound being distorted. I need a new music player basically. I was satisfied with the MD discs but I'd rather get an mp3 player. I'm holding off on the ipod (yes even the nano) until they find a way to allow consumers to put in a new battery. Any suggestions on what to get? I'm leaning toward a Creative Zen Micro or Nano Plus.

PS: It's so funny how iPod owes their playlist control to Creative. Very interesting to say the least.

its just abot the same as any other player

and you can get the X5L with a GODLY 35 hours of playback

I have an H10 and love it. I woudl suggest that if you are looking into something around the 5gb range

And since them, how many new mp3 players, like the iRiver H10 or iPod Nano have been released?
mp3 players are changing all the time, like many marketplaces (ie: computer components), so the question cannot really have been answered before unless it was very recent.
Also, some people have different needs, a recent thread on mnp3 players may have been about large ones, another about small flash ones, another about any kind etc etc.

30 is still less than the 80 i used to get on my MD, but greater than the 15 i get on my current MD. w00t.

Yeah, but one player is an MD and the other an X5. Not comparable, lol.

A little off topic, I have the X5L its a great player. But the last few days I have been getting 10 hrs at full charge instead of the rated 35 hrs. I emailed cowon about it, still waiting to hear from them. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?
