The best MP3 cd player is the SlimX from iRiver. You can pick it up for around $170 from Amazon.com. The expensive MP3 players are those with built in hard drives.
Then you'd like the Slimx too since iRiver designed (& manufactured?) the rio voltsOriginally posted by: Adul

In fact I was just looking at CompUSA's flyer from the Sunday paper and saw they are offering the iRiver iMP-350 SlimX for $150. I paid $18 more for mine via Amazon.com and received it about 6 weeks ago. Prices have fallen since, but I didn't really look around. I've done a fair bit of research and I guess having already bought the SlimX I'd have a tendency to want to justify my purchase, however I find it hard not to think of it as perfect. I think there is one player out there that supports a format not supported by the SlimX but there's not much else to criticize. You can get a Sony that gets a lot more battery life. If that's paramount to you, OK. But the SlimX has the features. I love the remote and never have to touch the player except to charge the internal rechargeables once in a while and change disks. The upgradeable firmware has a few revisions already and is very well thought out. Not perfect, but nearly so in most ways and especially the ways that count the most. Has never skipped on me. I like the FM tuner, too. Navigates directories beautifully and intuitively. Has hold-toggle on the unit and the remote. I keep it in a fanny pack with the remote attached to the outside and never have to touch anything but the remote. I've downloaded a host of freeware MP3 utilities and am very happy with my new toy. IMO, it's the technofile's ultimate CD/MP3 player. iRiver has a new, just about to be released (?) unit coming out that I believe includes burning and is rather more expensive but I'm not up on the details. Check out their website. They also have links to several reviews.Originally posted by: nitsuj3580
if you pay $250 for an mp3 cd player, than you are getting seriously ripped off. I know Rio makes some good models. My friend loves his Rio. I bought one of the first ones out called the MP3 Fit from easybuy2000.com. I love it. Keep tabs on CompUSA, Best Buy, etc ads. They are bound to have a good deal on one.
I was seriously considering the Bantam BA-350 before I heard about the SlimX. The 128 MB is upgradeable with 128 MB card but I had a question. I routinely listen to 150+ MB MP3s and I wondered if with 256 MB onboard I could play them with the unit. I emailed their support repeatedly and they never answered me. I guess the answer is no. I'm very glad I decided on the SlimX. I've emailed iRiver tech support a few times and they've always gotten back to me in less than 24 hours with the info I wanted.Originally posted by: DaveSimmons
Two I'm considering:
Samsung's new 128 MB has a radio and is $229 at Amazon, Bantam BA-350 is $200 at www.bantamusa.com . Both are nice but overpriced, 128 should be $150-175 at most.
CNet / ZDnet has reviews, and mp3.com has manufacturer-funded reviews that are surprisingly positive.
