Im a serious FPS fan, online mainly. I recently got the MX510 and that has improved my game quite a bit and im now a pretty decent player and own lotta people. But I have a crappy mouse pad and think this is the major flaw in my game.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good mouse pad for the MX510??

possibly func 1030 or icemat?

I tried both and didn't like them. I won't go into detail why but I can tell you I simply love good cloth pads. They simply have the best feeling and offer me exactly the kind of compromise between speed and control that I need (very mild friction improving my aim). I chose Allsop Raindrop. It's a cloth pad with a very nice, smooth surface and extremely flexible rubber underside which seems to "stick" to the desktop. Besides, it looks OK and is much cheaper than Icemat, Steelpad, Ricochet or fUnc. I highly recommend it. I simply don't like all those hard surfaces like metal, glass or hard plastic. Cloth > all :) but of course, that's just my individual preference. BTW, Raindrop also has more qualities like durability or no necessity of using mouse skates.

Hah, wow, darXoul you are the only person I've ever met to agree with me on that. All of my buddies have cool "gamer" mousepads like surface 1030 and Ratpadz GS, but they are too slick. I've had my mousepad for years now, it's the one that I got FREE when I bought Max Payne 1! Hah, it's even got Max Payne on the front of it-- just a simple cloth mouse pad but I wouldn't trade it for another!

func 1030 is my favorite. I've had mine for 4 or 5 years and it's still in excellent condition, that's under pretty heavy use.

MetalMusicMan:

I also agree. I think high end 'gamer' mousepads are a waste of money. I am using a seven year old free mousepad from Merriam Webster, and a Carwash one for my MX300.

raildogg:

I'm not sure. I doubt that a person's prowess in FPS depends all that much on their mousepads (the MX510 is a huge factor). Just my opinion.

Cloth over foam... yeah, that's the stuff! :)

My pad is quite old... maybe 4 years?

I've used alot of mousepads, from the basics to the steelpad, but by far my favorite is the fUnc Surface 1030. I love it, and would never use anything else for gaming.

another vote for funcpad... i was skeptical at first, but when i got it, it made a world of difference. i don't see how anyone can try funcpad and say a clothpad is better... it makes me wonder if he actually tried it. :-/

Add me to that list

My MX700 was very finicky towards the surface it was tracking, and I had tried many highend pads such as RatPadz, sUrface 1030, X-trac Pro H/S, 3M PMS, LitePad Pro, etc. and the only one that my MX700 liked was a mostly white surface depicting snowmen on a foam pad for $3.99 from Office Depot :D

I like my C4 NGen, but it was free. I also gave my Dad my free RatpadzGS because I couldn't stand it, it felt like mousing over sandpaper.

Got a Ratpadz GS and I think its much better than any mouse pad I've used before. Best $15 I've spent on one.

I advise you to take a look at Steelpad4d. I use it about 5 month and fully satisfied with it. Just read some reviews and decide for yourself.

I do find it odd that in almost every review, people RAVE about the icemat, yet I do not know anyone who uses them. ICEMAT USERS! Speakup, tell me how it works. I doubt I'll like it better than my cheapy Max Payne cloth mousepad, but it is the only "performance" mat that I haven't tried--so I figure I'd better try them all just to make sure. Let me know.

I'm a fan of the Func 1030 had one for over a year now w/ MX500 and am very happy w/ it esp, the cord clip for the mouse cord, it was a nice addition.

I have a 1030 on my other PC, I have a mousepad on my main PC that I got with the Pentium 166 back in 1996. so it's almost 9 years old, and I still use it daily.. it's just a cheap, red, cloth mousepad, and it's awesome :)
