Best Mouse for Gaming?

Any good mice for gaming out there? Optical mice are apparently more accurate, but also do this shaky recalibration thing when lifted from the pad and set back on it which can be incredibly annoying during fast-paced gaming. This makes me lean towards ball mice, but if some newer opticals have come out that correct this problem, I?d definitely be willing to consider them.

I don?t want to spend too much on a mouse, just need something sturdy and reliable that is great for gaming.

i'm using the mx500 and i don't notice any wrong movements when i life the mouse and move it over...

i would suggest that you get either the mx500 or mx700 if you are a heavy gamer.. they have a lot of customizable buttons that you can bind to different stuff in games.. if price is an issue, then go for the mx300.. it doesn't have as much buttons as the mx500/mx700, but it does use the same optical technology which is very accurate with no noticable lag..

best thing to do is head over to your local computer store.. they should have these mices on display.. try them out and see which one you are most comfortable with and which one fits your price range..

I use an MS Intellimouse Optical, works great. It has a total of 5 buttons which is more then then plenty for the games I play. It's also very nice for browsing with the 2 side buttons. You can find them online for as little as $15 shipped.

If you go the route of the MX700 look into the Logitech MX Duo. It is only a bit more and you get a nice wireless KB with it.

Is there a way to set up program specific buttons on the MX700? I use the thumb buttons for explore my computer and for close, but I'd like them to be bound to keystrokes when I'm in a game.

edit: The thumb buttons bound okay (didn't close the window like the intellimouse would when not set up right), but I can't use the three bonus middle buttons for anything. This is in Bf1942 Desert Combat, btw.

The logitech mx700 (my favourite) MS intellimouse explorer, and boomslang 2k are all great gaming mice - try them out first, if you can, as they are quite different shapes, and people can find some really uncomfortable, or too small/big for their hand.

Or apparantly MS is close to releasing a new mouse with a tilting scroll wheel, which could be useful for strafing... although maybe that would stop you strafing and changing weapon at the same time.

I like my MouseMan dual optical. If you try out an MX700 in the store, take a couple batteries with you. They change the weight of the mouse considerably. With batteries, the MX700 is over my comfortable weight limit. The MX500 shouldn't have this issue.

i have a dual optical...... it isn't that great..... i just ordered a mx500 so i'll write back after i compare the 2..... i've used the intellimouse explorer 3 at work but i don't like the design..... that and i don't want to support M$

Some mice are advertised as having 800dpi resolution. Will it make any difference compared to the standard 400dpi?
