Used exclusively with a laptop. Budget around $80 or so, negotiable. Battery life, comfort, portability, and response time are all important.

Was looking at the G602 but apparently it's very heavy and the thumb buttons don't look too comfortable.

I have used the Logitech VX Nano for a couple of years. I also use it on a desktop. Nice size, and great battery life. It has been replaced by a newer model - I think it is the M705.

It's not heavy at all. Just use 1 battery. Side buttons are excellent. The button shape is for better accuracy.

Check out the Logitech LX-8 Wireless Laser Mouse .. it fits good in most hands, runs on 2 AA batteries which last quite well. Not very costly either and has a couple of extra buttons which you can program to do whatever you want them to do.

For a laptop, I recommend a mouse that has the very small USB rcvr - then it can stay plugged in even when travelling and in a carrying case. The long unit above would be a no-no for me. Note the rcvr protrusion here:

With Logitech, most any of their mouse receivers work with all of the mice. I am using an MX1000 receiver with my LX-7 mouse.

I have three Logitech mice, and all have the mini-receiver. Each one is tied to its own rcvr, and they are not interchangeable. For laptop travel, anything but the mini is a non-starter because the rcvr must be removed for case packing and travel.

The point is, for a laptop that must at times be mobile, select a mouse with the mini receiver to start with.

Got the G602. Seems to be nice so far, but I'm still getting used to the forward/back thumb buttons. And yeah, for a mouse that size, sometimes it feels weird to have my ring and pinky finger drag on the mousing surface.
