Best motherboard/memory combination

What in your best judgement would be the best motherboard/memory combination to use with the E6850 GO 1333mhz cpu in a new build which will be used mainly for general computing and some gaming. I am also looking to make it relatively future proof.

Many thanks

A C2D chip is already basically obsolete. A quad which will soon be replaced is a much better choice. The closest to future proof would be a P38 based mobo and DDR3 ram which is very expensive.
In tech there really ain't no such thing as future proof.
To get real I would go with the Asus P5K deluxe and Crucial DDR2 8000 Ballistix.

Abit IP35-E/Kingston "N5" OEM DDR2 800 ValueRAM. Easy 450MHz RAM speed with 2.0Vdimm/4-4-4-12.

There's no such thing as future-proof. Buy what you need today, cause there will be much faster/better gears 9 months down the road. I'd go with any E4xx0 and overclock it to +3.0GHz. It may be a hair slower than E6850, but you'll never know the difference with what you're doing. Wait another year to upgrade CPU to 45nm Quad.

I think got the money you pay for E6850, better get a quad like Q6600 with a nice P35 board to be future proof, especially in the area of general apps, quads beats dual cores hands down. A Q6600 G0 will do nicely for you in my opinion plus it cost about same as E6850 right now.

Thanks guys. Actually I am looking forward to the 45nm cpu's but as Serpent says that's another year (or maybe more). Chances are, the ddr3 will be the ram of choice then and will be less expensive I'd wager. There may even be a more compatible mobo then too anyway. Ok, so much for the future.
I would have to agree with you that future-proof is therefore not a reality. So for now I think I'll go with genec's suggestion and beat the hell out of it with an overclock. Don't want to go watercooled just yet though so will stick with air for now. Think I should reach a stable 3.6 or 3.8, don't you?

And for nyker96, from what I read, the Q6600 as with all quads apparently, they run so hot that I will probably have to go watercooled to get the most out of them. Better just wait for the 45nm quads and build fresh system with water at that time. Thanks guy.
