Best Motherboard for Intel Core i5-2500K

Hi Guys,

I am planning to build a new Machine.. I have decided to go for Intel Core i5-2500K CPU, but not sure which motherboard to buy. Please suggest me the best Motherboard for the Intel Core i5-2500K CPU. (A board with built-in HDMI port is preferable but not compulsory!! 🙂 ) . Any recommendations on RAM too will be very helpful!! Waiting eagerly for your replies..

The question is best for what? Overclocking? RAID performance? Feature set vs. price?

You need to figure out what your priorities are and then set a budget. Only then will you be able to intelligently make an informed choice and/or get appropriate advice.
 
I would go with one of the Asus Z68 boards if I were you. I have the P8Z68-V Pro and love it. There are lower end and higher end Z68 boards from Asus that should fit any set of requirements.

I basically need a high performance multimedia board..- HD media, decent video editing and gaming, etc.. suggest me a future proof board (at least for next 5 years) 😎

and yes.. No overclocking/RAID etc..

There is no such thing as future proof for 5 years. How much are looking to spend? If you really want THE best for everything, you are looking at $350+ for a motherboard. Is that what you want to spend?

Just noticed you said no overclocking. You don't need the best board. You can do with the worst board.

My budget is approx $400 for Processor + Board + RAM .
 
~$210 for processor means you should probably get an 8gb ram kit (they are on sale for $50 - $60 or less pretty often.) In the price range you are looking, you should honestly just check all the reputable brands with boards in your price range and pick the one with the features you want because they are all roughly the same there.
 
Amen to that. Not to derail the thread, but I just upgraded to a 2500K and went through the same dilemma. (God bless the MicroCenter that price matched a Fry's cpu sale three days ago, making it not quite so dear in cost.)

What I found from lots of reading was that within a chipset series, such as Z68, the boards really perform very much like one another with very, very small amounts of variation.

Anyway, I noticed that in the Z68 chipset (the chipset I focused upon), performance differences between boards almost doesn't exist. So, I bought on name/reputation, although taking a chance on the chipset being newish, features, and price.

Being a new setup, I'd only look at Z68 boards. Just seems like no sense to buy a P67 any longer. Then, look at brands you'd trust buying, set a budget, then determine the features you need to have, features you just want, and features you find useless. Discriminate from that...you will probably end up with just a few (2-3) that suit you. Then....color decides. Or whatever...... 🙂
 
If your not going to overclock would it make sense to get the 2500 and not the K? It would save you a couple bucks towards the board? Newegg has it for 209 - $15 (EMCKCHB29) today only!

I like the Asus boards so I went for the P8Z68-V LE LGA. Got it for $125 at newegg (egg had $5 off the day I orderd).

CPU -196
RAM -50
MB - 130
....Puts you within your budget. You could even get the 2500k if you wanted. If not save and get an SSD or go for the 16Gb of ram.

If you are not overclocking I would suggest one of those H67 boards. You only lose SSD-caching, but I consider that to be a half-way solution anyways. You definitely want to manage the SSD yourself if you can get one with a decent capacity.

If you want this to last 5 years, you'd be wise to overclock that 2500K.
