Best motherboard for HP pavilion case

I have an old HP Pavilion Pentium 75 case. The case is in perfect condition and I think the powersupply is 200W.

Can this PC be upgraded with a new motherboard? The old motherboard is 2 boards with a lower mainboard that has mouse, keyboard, serial ports, parallel port and VGA connector on the lower board. Then a riser connects to the upper board where the PCI or ISA sockets are located for upgrades. The modem and sound card is plugged into an ISA port.

Any suggestions? I'd really like to recycle this case if possible.

Your help is greatly apprecaited.

Thanks,
Pigseye

That sounds like the classic proprietary motherboard/daughterboard setup. If that is true, a standard motherboard will not fit. With the 200 watt power supply, you can forget upgrading to the newest CPU's. If you can get around the motherboard problem, the power supply could support AMD K-62's, Celerons, ect. Look at the connection from the powersupply to the motherboard....is it one piece? If so, that is an atx connection...if it is a 2-piece plug, it's an AT connection. After you find what kind of connection you have, you could go to a computer repair shop and ask for a defective board, just to see if if would bolt into the case....that way you would know if the case is usable, without spending any money on it.

Like jtw99 said, and also..

Why would you want to keep that crappy case, anyway? No offense, but HPs aren't the best cases in the business. Do you have room for 2 case cooling fans? And wouldn't you want a roomy case that's easy to work with and to upgrade?

You can buy a case WITH a 300-watt PSU which will accomodate something around Athlon XP 1700+, for $50. Or a 400-watt PSU/Case for $64-70.

You're right guys. I gave up trying to use it. Just seems a shame to toss it out.

Thanks,
