I am using an AMD 64 3000+ on a GigaByte GA-K8NNXP motherboard. The board was a bit higher priced than a lot of others but the board rocks. It is an nForce chipset. I haven't had time to try overclocking it yet, but in plain vanilla form I really like it.

MSI K8N Neo Platinum was very highly rated by Anandtech, and even though I have had problems with MSI before, many people here seem to like this motherboard.

And VIA DOES make a good chipset for the Athlon64, I am using it, and the newer version Kt800pro has PCI/AGP lock I think.

Get a board that has KT800 Pro, or Nforce 250 gb chipset. These chipsets are more mature and are more likely to have an agp/pci lock. The older KT800 performs good put didn't have an agp/pci lock. The Nforce 150 gb chipset performed lower than the KT800. As far as the two I suggested I haven't looked at any benchmarks to tell which is better, but they are both good.

I agree with the above but also would like to mention that when using pairs of ram sticks, Asus makes the best compatability with their KT800 pro chipset mobo (cant remember name off the top of my head but something like Asus K8N deluxe or Asus KN8 Deluxe... u get the idea)

I love mine!!!!

Not to be negative, but i'm not so sure i like mine.

I didn't so much choose it as it came with a CPU for a great deal, so i took it.

I would rather have gotten an nForce 3 board, since i've found this mobo's quirks quite annoying.
