I am building my first system and wanted to do some research.

Which is the best motherboard at stock settings ?
I may tweak it a little bit more later.

My system would be mostly used for games. But having other features would be helpful.

From what I am reading.....
DFI's SLI is the best but you gotta overclock it or in my case know how to overclock it.

thank you for your advise.

At stock settings, any motherboard from NF4 based Ultra or SLI board from ABIT, MSI, ASUS or DFI would be roughly the same performance and stability wise. Take your pick. The MSI board does have slightly better audio capabilites since it uses a Creative Live solution. The DFI is the best overclocker and perhaps the best board overall though.

I have an ASUS and although it's not the best I had it nearly two months before widespread availability of the other mobos. I'm satisfied with my purchase is all I can say.

I can highly recommend the DFI LanParty NF4 Ultra-D, if you're not going the SLI route. It has been the best board I've ever used -- it's VERY stable, and overclocks quite well, I'm new to overclocking in the world of A64 and I've got my 1.8GHZ 3000+ running at 2.4GHZ and it's stable in Prime95 running overnight.

It runs very well even before tweaks, by the way.

Some of the nice perks to it, other than the insane amount of settings for overclocking, are things such as:

- Onboard hardware firewall (I have only used it a bit, but it seems to work well),
- Onboard Memtest86 bootable
- Onboard 8-channel sound (unless you're an extreme audiophile there's no need to buy a sound card)
- 6 rear USB ports, plus 4 for front panel
- ability to save/load multiple BIOS configurations
- and the components on the board glow under a blacklight, if you're into the crazy case modding trend that's been going on lately.. :)

And it's on sale at NewEgg if you buy in within like the next 15 minutes... :)

Even at the regular price ($145-ish) it's a steal.

No, I don't work for them, but I am a very happy customer.

Lol DFIDude, you haven't even bought your mobo yet. If you get the DFI and it won't work properly, you'll be right back to MSI ;)
