Best/most flexible fingerprint reader?

I've been thinking about getting a fingerprint reader for my parents' computer. They have trouble remembering their passwords, so in theory a fingerprint reader could help. However, I'm not familiar with how they work on the software side... I looked up the reviews on the only biometrics device Newegg carries (a Microsoft fingerprint reader) and read some complaints about compatibility with Firefox. (This won't do; I've already converted them to FF ;))

I would think, from a programming point of view, that the drivers/software for the device should just spit out the correct string into the active field of the active program. Of course, Microsoft isn't known for implementing the logical, obvious, or most efficient way of doing things... ;)

Any recommendations? Any cautions? Any rants?

Why don't you buy a retinal scanner? You sould also consider a breath scanner (you surely saw Alien Resurrection).
