Best Monitor For PS3/Wii/PC

I've been in the market for a new monitor for a couple weeks now.

Price is not an issue.

My concerns are mainly to do with resolution scaling. If I go all out and get the Dell 30", then I have all the inputs I need, but 1080p is scaled across a 1600 native vertical resolution and I'm worried it won't look as good as it would on a native 1080p display. Or is this not that noticeable?

Or would I be better off getting a display without component inputs (since there are so few monitors that offer this) and getting some kind of wii->vga adapter?

I want to be able to play my PS3, my Wii, and use my PC on this display. And I'd like them to look good and not have the noticeable input lag that accompanies some "Wii->Monitor" solutions.

Which is the best monitor for these purposes?

Conversely, what about getting a nice TV? Your Wii and PS3 will work great, and 99% of PCs will too.

I don't want to go the TV route because I want to play my consoles at my desk. And 30" is about the max size I'd want to go. TV's have lower resolution and are too big.

Up till now I've been playing my PS3 and Wii on a 60" plasma. (I also use this TV as a monitor for my media center computer. But I very much prefer monitors.

ever consider the 16:9 ratio 27" monitors? Instead of something like the U3011 the U2711 would fit what you're looking for pretty well. It has a wide range of connections (HDMI for PS3/360, component for Wii, and DVI/DisplayPort for PC) the 30" PC monitors will be a 16:10 ratio and not as ideal for console / media playback.

Only real knock against that monitor would be it has only one HDMI port and one set of component ports but if its only a PC/PS3/Wii you're hooking up it will work perfect.

If you have the Dell's you can run them with Aspect Ratio scaling, so they don't stretch to 16:10

Even then 16:9 to 16:10 stretch is pretty bearable (I was doing that for a long time using my NEC 20WMGX2).

I currently use my Dell U2410 with my PS3 and it works perfectly.

I've ordered a Wii2HDMI converter. And I'll be purchasing an HDMI switch from fry's in the coming days.

This way I can have my Wii/PS3/PC all going into one HDMI port.

Not having to narrow down my search to displays with a component or displays with 2xHDMI will make things much simpler.

Question, do most monitors come with an audio-out jack? One that you can plug headphones or speakers into? Because with Wii and PS3 going into HDMI, I'll need some audio output from the monitor.

if you plan on running your PC over HDMI you might as well forget a 2560x resolution and settle for a 1920x01080, I don't know of any PC monitors that feature an HDMI connection that will allow for greater than 1920 @ 60Hz
