I don't think this guy is serious, which is why I listed the T221. The 2405 is good, but since he listed a $5000 monitor, I thought I would list something a little better.

Wow, that IBM monitor is something else! Resolution of 3840 x 2400, with a pixel size of 0.1245 mm. With pixels that small, I bet any resolution you choose would look OK (provided the correct aspect ratio is used).

As far as the NEC CRT monitor the OP posted, the output goes downhill if you go beyond the recommended resolution of 1600 x 1200. CRTs just don't cut it anymore.

All these attempts to name the biggest / best monitor doesn't mean its the best to pair with a 7800GTX. With such a card gaming is infered. We then look into gaming monitors. Either a nice CRT that can do over 1600x1200 @ or above 85Hz or a fast response time LCD (as high resolution doesn't mean it will be suitable for gaming). Something along the lines of an 8ms 17-19" LCD, however such a card deserves 1600x1200 or better, which means a 20"+ LCD. Something along the lines of a Dell 2005FPW or 2405FPW. @ 1920x1200 with 1000:1 contrast and 500 cd brightness and a 12ms response time, I don't think there is a better monitor out their for the 7800GTX unless its some huge CRT you have room for.

Another 2405 vote, unless you want to pay half and get the 2005, which has been great for me!

Are you kidding? If you need good color reproduction, your only choice is crt.

There are now LCD monitors that surpass this $5000 monitor. Notice that the specifications from the NEC website:

"With this model, you can achieve the ultimate in quality, clarity and color. In fact, it?s the only available CRT to achieve 97.6% of the Adobe RGB color space, providing you with a remarkably wide color spectrum. "

Notice they said it was the only CRT to achieve 97.6% of the Adobe RGB. There are LCD monitors that achieve 100+% of Adobe RGB color spectrum! Here is a quote from NECs web site on their higher end LCD displays:

Designed to deliver a standardized color space for perfect color matching across all digital platforms and devices, the new wide gamut monitor integrates NEC's Super Advanced Super Fine TFT (SA-SFT) panel technology with LED backlight technology from Lumileds Lighting, the manufacturer of Luxeon® LEDs designed for integration into LCD displays and other general lighting products. The partnership with Lumileds Lighting has enabled NEC-Mitsubishi to develop this ground-breaking display which exceeds the Adobe® RGB color space, the standard in the professional color processing market. The new LED backlight utilizes Luxeon DCC -- an RGB light source -- that generates white light with an enhanced color spectrum and allows for tuning of the white point, which, when allied with a feedback sensor, ensures the display operates consistently over time.

There are LCD displays out there that have a better color reproduction than CRTs. The display even had a built in feedback sensor to maintain its color over time.

Also, see this link:

NECs new LCD monitors

This LCD monitor covers 109% of the Adobe RBG color space! I really don't think CRTs are the best for color reproduction anymore, or at least won't be in a few months. Of course this wouldn't be the best gaming monitors, but is better than a CRT for professional use. These LCD panels will also cost a lot less than the $5000 CRTs in the same category.

And here is another high color performance LCD you can buy:

EIZO ColorEdge LCD

the spec of note:

Display Colors: 16.77 million from a palette of 1.06 billion

You gotta admit this kicks some serious ass as far as color reproduction is concerned. response time is only 37 ms. Too bad they don't make an LCD where you can change the response time and color reproduction on the fly, to make the monitor suit your current needs.
