Samsung 955DF from amazone I think its for $227 shipped, might be after a $30 rebate
Its a great monitor for the money. >>
Not if you want high resolution with decent refresh rates.
Max resolution on the 955DF is a poor 1600X1200 @ 68 Hz... you'll go blind in a matter of hours with that setting.
About the only thing good about their DF series is the flat screen... that's about it.
If your eyes can handle a low refresh without making you dizzy/blind or if you don't run high res., then it's a good monitor.
If you need a lot of desktop space, get a Samsung 950P. I got mine last summer for $168 @ Dell

It does 1600X1200 @ 75 Hz (max is ,920 x 1,440 @ 64 Hz).
CTX's 19" series (VL950S) is a decent budget monitor (recommended by Anand for budget gamers).
It comes with a built in USB hub which is definitely a plus.
I'm using it in my other rig and it can be had for well under $200 now.
I can't really recommend any 17"s because I haven't been in the market for one ever since I went 19".
The last 17" I bought was a NEC FE700 which is a flat screen and was decent as far as I can remember.
Just don't let the "flatness" of the screens fool you.
The only flat CRT's that are worthy IMHO are the Trinitrons and Diamondtrons (used by Sony, Mitsubishi, Iiyama, etc.) and they have awesome resolution, refresh and dot pitches. The only downside is that they are pricey and have the 2 damper wires going horizontally across the screen.
