I have my Springfield Armory XD40 in my night stand drawer...Very nice gun and very accurate.

I carry a Kahr PM9 and it's very comfortable and pretty accurate as well for a small pistol. They also come in a 40 cal. and soon a 45.

Read further up the page for the links. We had that discussion just a few posts above your last.

There are many things in my house that can kill me and my loved ones if misused. Responsibility goes a long way.

None of those other things has the sole purpose of killing. A knife can be used for preparing food, opening things, etc. A gun is only used to kill. That's what it's designed for. See the difference?[/quote]

Guns are used in competitions, for recreation, for hunting, etc. They aren't only designed to take down bad guys.

My was was a cop, and we had two guns (duty and off duty weapon), but she had to have them locked up in a safe. She's never taken them out of the safe other than for work, and the off duty weapon gets used twice per year for qualifying.

You never hear of any home invasions or robberies being stopped by the victim having a gun, but you do hear about accidental shootings every week.

So, if you're worried about protection or security, get an alarm system and maybe learn some martial arts. Otherwise, move somewhere safer or get meds for your paranoia.

Sorry Fritzo, but you don't know what you're talking about. There are a ton of home invasions that are stopped by armed citizens. There are also a ton of home invasions that could have been stopped by armed citizens, which ended up in murder, rape, etc.

Just because your "something" (you left out a noun) never used her gun to protect herself doesn't mean no one else ever has. Applying one instance to everyone is beyond ignorant.

I can belt out fake statistics too, but that doesn't get us anywhere. My wife was the police office for 15 years and saw the results of having a gun in the house every week. Here's some real statistics:
http://consumerlawpage.com/article/hidden.shtml

In fact a gun in the home is 43 times more likely to kill a family member or a friend than to kill an intruder in selfdefense.

That stat has been debunked so many times it isn't even funny. The Kellermann paper was a very statistically flawed study. Stop citing probably one of the worst papers ever published and get some real stats.

Admittedly, the first source I cited was flawed. Therefore I shall cite one with more scientific backup.

Please let's keep this civil.

Man, you are a joke. You copy and paste the first google link you get without even reading it, expecting it to do all the arguing for you. He calls you out, and suddenly it is "flawed".

And lol at the brady link, quoting the queen of anti-gun hyperbole is going to get you nowhere. She is to guns what Jack Thompson is to video games. What's next? Are you going to start talking about "WMD-47 Street sweepers with armor piercing rapid-fire banana clips and "cop killer" bullets"? I am sure you use tubes and dump trucks in arguments about net neutrality as well.

It so sad that clowns like this get legislation passed. :disgust:

Even if that were true, it's irrelevant. The fact that it CAN kill is relevant.

You're now trying to rest on a fallacious argument.

Pay the CIA to help you develop telekinetic abilities. :p

A smaller caliber handgun w/ hollow point should be more than enough for self defense.

A taser in the shape of an anatomically correct marital aid + gimp suit = all intruders run like hell. Talk about giving someone the "shocker"

Home defense I'd go with a small shotgun. If your state allows it pay the extra money and get permission for a short barrel (14"). It'll handle much better in tight quarters than an identical 18" version. If you don't have that option an 18" will do. I personally prefer a semi-auto, but there's nothing like a pump scare off would-be's. Grab a 12gauge, some low-recoil 8-9 pellet 00 shells (or pick up the Remington low-recoil 8 pellet 000). Get a flat or matte finish, you don't want glare off it. Make sure it's got a good Surefire mounted. After that it's personal preference, just find something that you like the weight and feel of. Personal defense I like the Taurus Millennium Pro PT140. It's perfect for small hands.

12 ga of your choice. Depends on if you think you need to go out and blow a wad on an expensive shotgun. Personally, I would pick up a Mossberg.

If you ever intend on getting a CCW permit, I'd suggest a Walther PPK or a classic 1911. Your choice.

If you don't plan on leaving home with it, a shotgun wouldn't be a bad option. However, I am still partial to the aforementioned handguns.
