I haven't read much into the mobo part of the Conroe launch, but what will be the best one when it does indeed hit?

Also, do we know details about the Conroe chips as of yet? Speed and price breakdown?

Thanks!

There is a forum dedicated to motherboards, try there.

As for Conroe, Anandtech has benchmarks as well as pricing in their Computex coverage.

Its a VERY tough call at this point, ASUS almost never disapoints but the bio's limits the FSB to 450 right now (we don't know how much more its got in it :( )

MSI, Gigabyte and supprisingly the Badaxe(Intel made board) are putting up good FSB numbers
but I would hold on the badaxe, high Vdimm and possibly just overclocking them seems to be killing them right now :(

Im waiting it out personaly :)
If Asus updates the bio's then I would expect good things, but its still up in the air.

Hmm, thanks for the feedback. I hope Asus pulls together, I really trust their products.

Also, how much and what speed ram should I be getting when Conroe does hit? I'm thinking 2GB of PC-8500 (if its supported?)

I'm building a gaming rig.

The new update (like yesterday) to the Asus board has a software limit of 500FSB in the bio's.. I havnt seen the board benched that hard just yet though so keep your fingers crossed :p

I'm personally waiting for the nForce 590 SLI Intel offerings. It's a tough choice between the Intel chipsets since the 975X has CrossFire support, but the 965 has more native SATA ports and many more partner boards with passive chipset cooling.

I don't buy ATi because their linux support is crap, so I guess I'm getting the i965, though I would like the dual PCIE x8 slots.

Asus P5W DH (revised 975x) or the Asus P5B Deluxe (965).

those are the only two from asus that i know of...and their respective non-deluxe versions as well.
