Greetings,

I am helping a friend build a new rig, and I'm not too up-to-date on reading reviews and benchmarks lately, so need some advice on picking a motherboard.

What is the best board out there to match Q9450?

Non-SLI, with plans to overclock, DD3 not necessary.

Budget doesn't seem to be an issue here.

Thanks!

Since you aren't planning on doing SLI or presumably xfire, a P45 board would be fine. You'll want a P45 instead of P43 or P35 as the lower multi on the quads (vs duals like e8x00s) means you'll want the ability to reach decently high FSB speeds. The stickied thread on the asus p5q deluxe is one place to start, as that's a solid board. Other choices with the p45 chipset are listed here. I stuck with the higher priced options if budget isn't an issue, but if you find the features unnecessary, there are plenty of lower priced variants in each product line.

The x48 is more expensive than p45 with very little benefit. x48 has 2 PCIe 2.0 16x lanes while p45 can do 16x/4x or 8x/8x, but you're not doing xfire so that's not a factor. x48 has better memory performance, but that's also not large enough to really warrant choosing it over p45.

Hi guys. I will take advantage of this post to ask you a question.
I'm planning to buy a new mobo and a new processor. The processor I don't have doubts and I will buy the Intel Core2Duo E8500 and the motherboard I really like the design of the Maximus Formula II P45...but I have a few doubts because the other P5Q Deluxe is a very good board for the reviews I've seen, but the design it's not so good as the other. So my question is if it's worth the performance to change for the P5Q Deluxe or to change for another board with the X48 chipset which I really didn't want to go, because the benefits are not as extreme as it is for me to buy a board with the X48.
Thanks :)
