Best MOBO, HSF etc to use with Athlon 1700+?

Hi, im relatively new to building computers. I know that i can afford the 1700+, but i need help with the rest of the stuff.

"The rest" includes mobo, hsf(which should be quiet as possible), video card, RAM, how much RAM, how many 80mm fans and where they should go, whether or nor ill need an 120mm fan in the side, a CD-ROM and a CD-RW. Will be an IDE system.

I already have a SB PCI512 Sound card that i could use and a Diamond TNT2. Would they be ok, or do i need an upgrade. I do a fair amount of gaming, some word processing, database work, internet brousing and play mp3s and video. I also have a cable connection.

Oh, and i was thinking of getting the Maxtor 40gig ATA 100 for $ 80 from staples. Lemme know what you think.

I would also like to keep the end price modest...maybe around $500 if possible. Thanks for any input at all. So the stuff doesnt have to be top of the line. Just good enough to work well w/o any issues. I'll be running WIN98 2ND ED. and will not be overclocking. I would also love it if u could give me online stores that would have good prices fore the stuff u recommend.

Look at the kt266a boards. Find one that you like considering what you have already. I'd say wait a couple of months for the geforce 4 to come out then upgrade to geforce 3 ti 200. That should fit your needs. Also at least 256 megs of DDR ram. Crucial a good place to go for that. Pick a case and then you'll know what fans you need and where. As for a heatsink I'd say go with a thermalright sk6 or CoolerMaster HHC-001 Heat Pipe Cooler. You could find something cheaper if it came down to it but cooling is very important with amd's cpus.

well I highly recommend NEWEGG for the merchandise for the motherboard If you already have sound and video go VIA KT266A if not go with the MSI K7N420 its a sweet board and very easy to install a little pricey though but super stable it has good onboard sound and good video best you'll get that's onboard. For the heatsink fan do a search on this forum you'll come up with something!
