best mobo for the XP

What motherboard would you get for a athlon 2000+ XP? I was first gonna get a GigaByte GA-7VRXP, but then some people told me it is better to get a MSI. What do you think? If it makes a difference: my computer is mainly for gaming.

I would get something using an AMD chipset. They have always been more stable for me.

Ya, but the AMD761 boards are paired with the plagued Via 686B southbridge. The AMD 761 is a slow northbridge by today's standards.

I think the Abit NV7-133R looks interesting. It has an nForce 415 chipset, and for $90, the board has nforce 5.1 sound, raid, usb2, and lan. Dang, that's a sweet deal 🙂 Only thing is if you like overclocking, this board isn't for you since you can't do much on it. Maybe you can change your ram to cas2 or up your bus 5mhz but that's about it. (I'm not even sure if it lets you up your bus).

I have an MSI KT3 Ultra that works just fine for me. I have an XP 2100+ at FSB 142MHZ and Corsair PC3000 DDR SDRAM at 350Mhz. OS is WinXP. I have had zero problems with the VIA chipset or anyhing else on the board. I'm running a Mylex RAID-0 controller with four Seagate Cheetah drives and I have no compatability problems whatsoever.
