Hey all,

Thinking of gettin in on the low cost of what seems to be very OC'able 2500+ Barton. Wanted some advice on the best/most stabe board for this purpose.

I I am hopeing to be able to hit 11 X 200, i have some crucial ddr 2700 will this cut it? or will i need new mem as well? if so, what mem will i need?

oh, and are these barton chips multiplyer locked? if so, could someone point me in the direction of how to unlock em..

thanx

Buy 2 256mb sticks of Corsair VS3200DDR@Googlegear for 92$shipped, Epox 8RDA+ for 85$shipped@Newegg, add Barton, mix and enjoy ;) No need to unlock the Barton when using NF2 chipset and just set the ram to 100% for synch mode and you're set.

Soltek SL-75FRN2-RL 95$shipped@Newegg is a great overclocking board with Promise SATA Raid.

The new Epox 8rda3+ has raid I believe.

My regular old 8rda+ is currently at 11x210fsb in synch and my old one (went to wife) was running 11.5x200
You will need some good mem like twinmos/winbond pc3200 or kinkston hyperx 3200

Yes, except they dropped the MCP-T on the 8RDA3+ and the firewire and sound are from seperate PCI add on chips. :(

OOOOH, I knew about the sound, but didnt realize the firewire was on pci.
Glad I dont need raid which is why I went with the 8rda+ 2 weeks ago when I needed to replace wife's board.

Yeah. As much as I love Epox, I can't understand the reasoning behind that one...

Same here. Luckily for us, EPoX has released a Rev. 2.0 of the original 8RDA+. It still uses the MCP2-T and adds no new gizmos, but it does come with adjustable Vdd and the awesome nForce2 Ultra 400 SPP. I might get one of those to replace my Rev. 1.1 board eventually.

errr...i dont wanna sound like a tool, but what is "MCP-T" and why is it better? and why is "firewire and sound are from seperate PCI add on chips" bad?

thanx in advance for helping me in my ignorance.

Good luck getting a rev 2, they are only a rumor in the USA right now, not a reality.

MCP-T is what gives it the firewire and soundstorm 5.1 sound, it is integrated into the chipset as opposed to being a 3rd party ad on via the pci bus.

Don't worry, they're coming. Look how long it took the 8RDA3+ to arrive and be in-stock... And your second statement provides the reasoning I'd use to explain why the 8RDA+ Rev. 2.0 is superior to the 8RDA3+. I like the MCP2-T and how all the devices integrated into it ride the HyperTransport bus rather than the PCI bus.

I think Soltek SL-75FRN2-L or RL is great. You can get them from NewEgg or Iocombo for around $90 ...
Epox is my second choice ... then Abit NF7 :)

Yes, the current 8RDA+'s in the retail channel have the Ultra 400 chip in them, but they are not the rev 2.0 PCB that will add Vdd adjustment. :)
