Question Best MOBO for new build?

Hi!

I´m planning my first computer build and I´m not sure which mobo to use. This is what I have now:

CPU: Intel Core i9-9900k
Cooler: Corsair H150i Pro
Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32 Gb (2x16 Gb) @3466
Storage: 1 Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1 Tb M.2 (For Storage)
1 Samsung 970 EVO Plus 250 Gb M.2 (For Windows 10)
Video card: EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 11 Gb FTW3 Ultra Gaming
Case: Corsair Spec Omega RGB ATX Mid Tower
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNova G3 750W 80+ Gold

As for the MOBO I´m concidering two of them, at the moment:

The Gigabyte ZZ390 AORUS MASTER and the ASUS ROG Maximus XI Code.

I like that the Gigabyte one has 3 M.2 PCIe x4 slots Vs. the 2 on the Asus (I would like to add more storage, up to 4 TB in M.2 for storage).

That being said I have no idea which one would be better. Do you have any opinions on this (or anything else for that matter)?

I´m mostly going to use the computer for gaming on 4k resolution, maybe 1080p some times, and I do plan on overclocking (never done this before, but I´ll try...). I plan on buying everything in 2 weeks, more or less. I may want to wait for Samsung to release their 2TB 970 EVO (which should be out next month).

Thank you!

I used to like Gigabyte back in the day, but these days, general consensus seems to be that they use lousy capacitors and have a really poor track record compared to other major manufacturers. It also doesn't help that when it comes to comparing their AIB GPU offerings, they tend to be the lowest performers, least reliable as well. ....so maybe best to avoid them?

I'm not sure why you want more than 2 M.2 slots, because I'm not sure that for your use case you will really recognize a huge gain compared to some SATA3 SSDs for your 3rd+ backup drives. Even if you're doing 4K rendering, all of the advantages are when you are doing the rendering, and not really for storing/accessing raw or complete files.

I think ASRock is the best right now. One thing to consider with that CPU, is power delivery. You need a good motherboard and PSU, especially if you are overclocking.

I only want the M.2 because the less cables I have to deal with, the happier I am. And I don´t mind the extra cost, so... Still, I could live with 2 TB storage in 1 M.2 slot, or I could get 2x2 Tb and just use windows in the same drive as everything else.

What would you recomend?

a) 1 TB for storage and 250 Gb for windows only

or

b) 2 Tb but windows included in the same drive as everything else?

yeah definitely the 2TB for everything if MINO, and agree with mark that ASRock is probably the way to go. I didn't know if their Intel offerings were considered as good as their AMD offerings, but I'd trust that guy.

Thanks! I´ll definitely check it out. What do you think of the overall build? Anything you´d change?
If you overclock, get a 1000 watt gold or platinum EVGA or Corsair. If you don't, maybe a 850 just to be sure. I am an AMD man(since Ryzen), but not trying to change your mind unless you want the "plug".

I switched to Asrock after 2 bad Asus boards last summer. Love the Intel side, had too many problems with AMD products over the years

I usually go for the largest size I can afford. The higher capacity usually has better endurance, for instance the Samsung 970 EVO doubles the TBW rating when doubling the size (and has higher seq. read/write speeds at 2TB).

My bad ASUS boards were all Intel. Since 2017 (Ryzen) no problems with AMD, nothing but problems with Intel.
