If you don't want VIA or SiS, then you are asking for a nForce board. If you get a nForce you will not need the S.Card Audigy.

I use the VIA (KT333) myself but look for the Asus A7N266-C. It has the nForce 415D chipset, No video on board. It does have the 6ch sound card.

Yeah, you are pretty much limited to the Nforce if you refuse to go with Via or Sis..your loss. :(

currently the best chipset for the athlonXP is the via kt333

its the fastest/highest performing chipset you can get.... not to mention its very bug free and stable :)

if i was buying a new motherboard today for my athlonXP it would be the epox 8k5a2 or one of its bigger brothers (8k5a2+, 8k5a3+) the + versions have onboard raid and onboard LAN, they also have 6 pci slots instead of 5

My IWILL XP333-R is a good/stable performer using the Ali Magic chipset.

kt333 is currently the fastest followed by the kt266a, sis 745, nforce, amd 761, ali magic (not necessarily in that order).

the nforce 2 is due to be out shortly, so you might want to wait to see how that one is. it is nvidia's second chipset, so they will have learned a lot from their first release. it should be a strong performer.

my personal favorite is the sis 745, but the kt333 is an excellent choice.

[edit] forgot about the nvidia chipset [/edit]

hey, i'm looking for the Asus A7N266-VM NVIDIA nFORCE 220, but NEWEGG just ran out. Anyone have comments on the board and more importantly know a good company to buy it from except for newegg? I want a good reputation and excellent RMA service (just in case). Thanks!

Mwave.com has the A7N266-VM for 73$ and they are a top notch company like Newegg as well.

I forgot to comment on the A7N266-VM ;) First the bad, the manual is suck! It lists the jumper settings for the BSEL0 and BSEL1 (CPU&RAM speed jumpers) backwards, it shows a clear CMOS jumper but there isn't you pop the battery to clear it, the AAPANEL1 is shown in the wrong orientation in the manual but the pins are listed correctly so no big deal. Also it is a pain to setup using win98 so XP or w2k are highly recommended (I'd recommend either anyways ;) ) Now the good, it's the fastest all-in-one I've used hands down and the sound is excellent, they even include the S/PDIF for digital output. It supports the XP2200+ and you can use the Asus update to flash the bios through windows. The last and sweetest plus is that you get it for 73$ and I paid 89$ just 3weeks ago or so for it @Newegg :frown: ;)

I read a lot already on the board and heard about the win98 stuff. Win98 will never exist on it though, so i'll try it out. Have to make a integrated value system for someone. I was going to go for the nforce 420 but u have to use two memory dimms, which is a hassle.

i ended up going for wiredzone.com since their ratings are decent although short-listed on resellersratings, and i called up and they seem to have a customer-first attitude. i'll check out mwave next time, thanks.
