Don't really need to overclock, or need too many bells and whistles beyond the standard stuff like LAN and USB2. Leaning toward the 865 chipset, but am open to other suggestions. The more cost effective the better, but not to the point of limiting the long term usefulness of the board. Probably going with a fast SCSI hard drive, so on-board SCSI is nice, but not required - especially if a add-on Adaptec would be a better choice.

So, what do you dweebs think? Asus, Abit, Intel, what?

Well, I'll be happy to throw in my $.02 since you asked. ;)

After lots of research to find the best mate for my P4-2.8C, I've selected and just ordered the Asus P4S800D-E Deluxe at $98.89 net from Essential Computer.

Not only is it an awesome price for a thrifty Scottsman like myself, but it also beat its coveted 875P Asus brother in performance as well. Plus, it has all the features I want. This includes, whether you want/need it or not, a healthy ability to drive the 2.8C to 3.4 with no drama at all. Heck, why not if it's not a problem, right?

Hope this proves helpful.
Cheers!

p.s. I also bought a pair of Seagate 120GB SATA150 drives and a pair of 512MB OCZ 3700 Rev2 Gold sticks. Now I've just got to decide on a case.

:D

For a value board -

Asus P4S800 Dlx - SIS655TX - I own this board and it is excellent - performs as well as any I875 board I have or have tried at a fraction of the cost
Asus P4P800 Dlx - I865
Abit IS7

IMHO
