Best MOBO and HS/Fan for T-Bird 800

Just as the title says...getting a T-Bird from compuwiz1, so I know it's OK to OC (thanks Steve for your patience 😉)... going to a computer show this weekend, and they usually have good deals...what do you guys (and gals🙂) think about it...cost is not an issue :Q, and I want a GOOD overclocking board with a SoftMenu type set-up.

I've had good luck with Abit, and I hear MSI makes a good board for this chip.

Also, what is the BEST fan/hs for this chip...cost no issue.

Any links for the MOBO or HS/Fan would be great!!!

Thanks!

Well I use a MSI pro2-A and Duron 800@1000 and its been real solid. I'm using the GW FOP38+Delta fan. Somewhat loud but I'm used to it. I'd get an Alpha PAL6035+ Delta fan. It should perform on par with the much more expensive hedgehog.

Alpah vs. Hedgehog

MSI K7T Pro2 (this board reviwed is essentially the same except the pro2-A has ata-100 support, the board reviewed does not.)

Thanks Subversal...I appreciate it....some other questions

1)What are your basic mobo set-up parameters (I've been doing the OC/Celeron thing)

2)Best place for cooling supplies...it's been a while.

Thanks🙂

Thanks everyone...all this info is great.

I like the RAID feature (hey, I'm a Network Engineer/MCSE) for redundancy, but the MSI board seems to be a more stable board from what I read/hear, although the Abit BX6-r2 that I'm using now has been awesome...stable with a Celeron II 533@896...ain't too shabby😀

I'll let you all know what I get, the set-up, benchmarks, etc. when complete.

Most people don't seem to be recommending this, but I've had nothing but great success with my Asus A7V revision 1.02. Other than having to use dipswitches to change multipliers, I think it's a great board. I've no stability problems with it at all and the board layout is very clean (in my opinion).

I've been able to clock two 1.0GHz Thunderbirds to 1.2GHz+ on this board. Although there are other boards out there with RAID and such, I'd recommend this board. It's a nice board.

Regarding heatsink/fans, well, if you can stand the noise then I'd suggest a FOP-38. I've heard the copper Hedgehogs are an excellent heatsink/fan as well, but I've not used one and I'm unsure of the kind of fan that comes with it.

Sundog, YGPM back...thanks.

AmazonRasta, thanks for your input, that board was actually my 3rd choice, but you gotta' make a decision sooner or later...it seems MSI has stability (no knock on your board or Asus....please, no flames, as my Nomex suit is being cleaned 🙂), and I like the RAID on the ABIT, coupled with the fact I am VERY happy with the Abit board I'm running now...

The Battle is on...next!

SlickVic, no worries dude. I'm not the type to hold a grudge 😀. I've not experienced an setups with Abit boards, so that is why I couldn't recommend one. The greatest things I like about the KT7-Raid are the multiplier adjustments in BIOS and the onboard RAID support.

However, I recently visited Asus' site and their new board, the A7V133 now has the option of onboard RAID as well. As for multiplier adjustments in BIOS, I'm unaware. But, due to the fact that there are BIOS versions released for the A7V (> revision 1.02) with multiplier adjustments makes me think that Asus would include such a feature in on their newest motherboard.

Just some more of my two-cents worth. Good luck with the board of your choice though!

You can check 2Cool or Plycon for cooling gear--please note that Plycon happens to provide free advertising for TeamAnandTech (check that link!) so I'm partial to them 🙂.

They're both great merchants when it comes to cooling products.
