right on about final fantasy. i had a real love hate relationship with it. i loved how the game is so emersive and challenging but hate that it sucked every bit of time out of me. most mmos are time eaters but ffxi took it to an entirely different level.

I have been partial to bashing fairies etc in the past - was merely pointing out its something different from the other 15 zillion mmorgs based in a fantasy environment.

Go get some from your lady and come back when you are nice again :D

I am a vet MMO player who is impressed by WoW. I am also in a guild full of veteran gamers. We have a member who went to Sweden for a CS tournament. We have members who came from Lineage 2 and a whole bunch from EQ and DAoC. Most all of them also played UO.

Most of the large WoW guilds are filled with veteran gamers. So now you have heard of them.

I personally consider Everquest, before any of the expansions were released, to be one of the most enjoyable MMORPG experiences i've had. Of course, you'd need a time machine to go back to 1999 to be able to play that.

I know MMORPG's are a timesuck but this game just seems to have been created to suck the time out of you to do ANYTHING in the game. You have to wait forever to play the actual game and level or do most missions because you have to do everything in a party. You can only solo with a beastmaster which is even more tedious and stupid.

I'm rather embarassed to say I started playing this game in a very weak emotional moment in my life and got sucked into it for about a year.
I can stop playing a game and say gee this was a very enjoyable game to play... I can't say that about FF.. It was like mind control the way I played that stupid game. I wasn't having fun but it was so habit forming. It was my first MMORPG so I didn't know any better...

My first MMORPG as well. Had it shipped from the US to the UK to play it months earlier. Wish I hadnt wasted my money or exhaustive time.

Parties were just retarded in general.

In AC1 You will Find a More Indepth World with Full History and Lore, Then You will Find In ANY Other MMO, The UI is Easy To Navigate and Unobtrusive. As Said the Graphics are alil Out Dated (They will be gettign an UpGrade in a Expansion Pact due Out in July). AC2 Bombed becuase the took out alot of the ability to customize your character and added a set Skill Tree which you wont find in AC1. In fact AC1 lets you Choose ANY skill combination you want. AC1 also recieves Monthly Content and Game Patches. (Currently Suspended till after the Expansion release) Over 500 Squares Mile of Terrain to explore Hundreds of Dungeons and Quests all with Full Back stories and Lore

When You compare AC1 to Other MMO's? You will find Them Severly Lacking In BackStory. Game Content. They do often Have Fancier graphics tho, and Bulky PITA UI's

Heres a Link to AC's Homepage

Thought you'd be interested to know DAoC is opening up two servers with new rulesets. They will both be ToA free (except for the races and classes) including MLs and buffs can only be applied to group members and have a range of 5000.

This is just like Mythic.....admit a screw up a year after it happens. Classic. Still, this sounds nice as they mentioned no /level20, but they didn't mention anything about the free level every 7 days.

Here's my vote for AC1....it's really the only MMORPG I've played other than WOW Beta, but that game destroyed my social life for over a year. The amount of content they add every month, even now after the game is over 5 years old, is amazing.

after that play eve online and see that its the only mmorpg which can be qualified as "next gen", its just on another level above the others.

I didn't say there were no vet players playing WoW......just that none were impressed by it. The fact is, once you get into these things, you get hooked and as you burn out on one game you happily move on to the next new thing to give you your fix. But if you're trying to tell me that people who played UO and EQ and DAoC were genuinely impressed by WoW in anything other than a "oh look how nicely they packaged the same old thing" then.....well.....your friends are either very easily impressed or you're misconstruing have-an-active-account with was-impressed-by-the-game.

I would LOVE to hear exactly WHAT impressed them about WoW because, whatever it is, it's been in other games already.

A game doesn't have to have anything new to be impressive. Sometimes execution alone impresses. What impresses most people I know about WoW?

- Leveling up is extremely fun. Most veteran gamers will tell you the journey is more fun than the destination. In other words, leveling from 1-60 is the most fun you can have in an mmorpg. Most vets will level up multiple characters very fast.

- The quest system was polished and well coded. Quests in WoW are entertaining enough that people can get into them quickly and have fun doing them. Veteran gamers coming from UO/EQ arn't really used to doing quests at all. Most of UO/EQ is NOT quest related.

- The mod community is very active in WoW (and WoW gives them the ability to be). You can customize the sh!t out of the UI and a lot of people like that, including me.

- The world was very fresh. Coming from EQ/UO I was used to certain looks. What to expect when you see a town / etc. WoW broke these expectations down by giving lots of unique looks to the different locations around the world. Made me actually want to explore and find out what was at the end of a road.

- Classes actually had unique abilities. I played a warrior in EQ, my main abilities were taunt and slam. Thats it. It is extremely refreshing to be able to play a warrior in WoW and actually require some skill and decisions in your templates.

- Battlegrounds brought FPS gameplay to an MMORPG.

- I actually enjoyed multiple encounters in WoW on a group level. Such as the first time my guild took Shadowfang Keep. That dungeon was hard at the low levels and the bosses were tricky. The wolf man could easily wipe a group and the head boss teleported around a ton. People trying to tackle this dungeon at an early level really had their work cut out to them and that was extremely impressive. Blizzard followed this trend with some of their other dungeons that were a real lot of fun to figure out. UO dungeons were simply based with retarded AI monsters that would wonder towards you when you came on screen. EQ had very little in the way of uniqueness in dungeons, monster HP simply kept getting higher as you went up.

Yes, you can pretend everyone is playing WoW just to feed an addiction. But I could say the same about UO and EQ. It is a copout excuse when you are unable to realize that the game actually is extremely impressive.

Whoa there, cowboy. EXTREMELY fun? You don't think you're going a little overboard with that statement?

I thought you said you'd played DAoC too? There are VERY similar quests in DAoC that, in many ways, are better written....at least, there were no swine assassinations in DAoC. :)

So would you categorize customizing the UI under "EXTREMELY FUN" too?

That's what I was saying.

Again, in DAoC, every class had it's own set of almost completely unique spells or abilities and they were dependent not only on your class, but on your weapon choices. Remember?
- Battlegrounds brought FPS gameplay to an MMORPG.
Actually, the battlegrounds were first introduced in DAoC for under lvl 35 characters who didn't want to get pwned in the frontier but still wanted to PvP. And the BGs in DAoC weren't limited to a certain number of players and have no queues and involve siege warfare....but....ya.

Hmm ok here we go..imma start writtigna nd we shall see how this goes.

I first started playing MMOs with EQ..and wow was that fun. I got it over the summer when it came out and i swear i went many of days of never leaving the computer. I remember first spawning in as a high elf right under the front arch..it was dark...i was so lost...and people kept sayhing SOW and i was so confused. LOL anyway i got used to it and oh ho wi loved it. I never got high end..the higheste i got was lvl 30 because i tried ever class there was...and at a certain point it did seem to become really too hard to go any further. I played through a few of the expansions and then cancelled my account. I cam back later when Luclin came out and wow was it diffrent. Graphics were better and while it much bigger i felt it lost something. All of the old zones are now empty and all that is left now is high lvl people running aroudn with uber gear that i will never have.

EQ was truely the gaming experaince i ever had. Such a huge world...good people. So many good times running around the wolrd and figuring things out. Yelling TRAIN as i got my butt kick out of Black Burrow...ah good times.

Now since then i have played FFXI, WoW, AO, DoAC, SWG, and i did beta for Matrix online. As of yet none of these have touched EQ. True through most of these i didnt get to high lvls becuase they just werent as fun as WoW and i lost interest WAY too fast. And durring college i just dont have the time becasue i ahte being anti social.

WoW. My clan that i play CS with (more like a community of gamers) loves it and got it the first day. I on the other hand was stuck in limbo for two weeks tring to decide on EQ2 or WoW. I fell to peer presure and went with WoW. When i first started playing i thought it was awesome..new graphics, awesome quest system, little cool things about the world. But after lvling up to lvl 30 it just lost the fun. It wasnt hard to lvl like EQ it just lost fun. A whole lot of running back and forth for the same quests over and over again. There really isnt anything too new here. I understand that as you get to really high lvls the instances get really awesome with raids group and all but still its just the same old thing. and myh BIGGEST beef with wow is the classes. I remember playing EQ, and as a lvl 30 druid i have more spells in my spell book then i knew what to do with. After getting to lvl 30 in wow i had nothing even close to that. You get the same spells over and over and there are only a few cool spells here and there. The graphics for the spells dont change like they did in EQ either.

I would really love wow if they had MORE classes and MORE spells, and MORE customisability. EQ had a LONG list of classes and races wow doesnt!

WOW: Mage, druid, priest, warrior, pally, shaman, necro
EQ:Druid, Bard, Shaman, Cleric, Wizard, Mage, Warrior, Monk(oh i love the monk and bard), Illusionist dude, Beast master, Necro, Shadow Knight, Paladin.

WoW Race: Human, Dwarf, Gnome, night elves, orce, troll, tauren, undead...and these are good/evil specific.
EQ: Human, Barbarian, Dwarf, Gnome, Iksar, Cat race guys, Half Elfs, Wood Elves, High elfs, Dark Elves, and a bunch more i cant think of.

THe only thing cool about WoW thats not in EQ is the PvP. tahts pretty cool but very unbalnanced right now..but i am sure they will fix that.

That is my thoughts...

I would have to say AC was the best for pvp, story(monthly updates) and character customizing. The biggest thing I liked about AC was it was twitch based combat and if you where good enough you could fight for 20+ minutes, even outnumbered. The combat was very much skilled based, not level based.

The bad part was the hacks and cheats the constant character imbalancing during the time I played.

No no.....DAOC == WoW. That's all I'm saying. But, frankly, arguing over which lame-ass boring level grind is better than the other is like choosing between a stick to the eye and a kick to the groin.

I have been playing Planetside for about a year and a half now. Me and the members from my outfit have even had fan gatherings :p, that is the longest any game has been able to hold me. I also like Earth and Beyond... I played that for about 9 months, then EA announced that they were shutting the game down. Earth and Beyond had potential.. EA was just stupid for shutting it down. I have tried EVE, it held my attention for about 3 months, but it seems to be too much of a "Life Simulator" and has way too much micro management involved in it. Right now I am playing WoW in conjunction with Planetside... and WoW is the first MMORPG that has been able to hold me over for more than 3 months :p

AC1 was without a doubt the best MMO I have ever played by a long shot.
AC2 sucked in so many ways.
DAoC - sucked in everyway IMO.
Lineage II - I just couldnt get into, and I can't fairly give it a vote either way
Shadowbane - was super buggy but it was fairly good in alot of ways
FFXI - Fun for the first week, but took to much time to do anything
WoW - Well balanced, looks pretty, the PvP lacks any point. A good o_O game though
EQ1 - This game was a giant treadmill and lacked "fun factor"

I wanna try out EVE, might download it tonight when I get home :)
