I'm ready to install the new 2.45 kit, but want to make sure I install it correctly. How does one go about doing this? Uninstall old drivers? Simply install over old ones? Please advise. Thanks.

Was your previous driver provided by NVidia or are they custom drivers from your mobo manufacturer? And if they are NVidia vanilla drivers, did you use the SW IDE driver? Please give more details on your previous install.

You shouldn't have any problems over-riding the previous drivers.

It is recomended you have Service Pack 1 for XP installed, but it is not necessary, as you may just download the USB 2.0 patch and skipp the whole update.

Just be sure you COMPLETLY DISSABLE any Antivirus, Anti-spyware, pop-up stoppers whatsoever. Try to close any program that runs on background, for safty reasons.

Some extremist would suggest even doing the VIA-4-in-1 procedure.
1.- Uninstall any previous driver
2.- be sure to have SP1 XP
3.- restart your computer
4.- enter safe-mode
5.- install the package
6.- restart and so some stress-testing to asure yourself that no stability problems will be encountered.

Some people have reported that the IDE drivers fail with a BSOD when surfing the net, so you may also want to try that. I highly doubt you could be a victim of this fenomenom, but its always good to be sure...

Bonne chance.

Um, that's wrong. You can not download a "USB 2.0" patch from Microsoft, you have to load SP1 to enable USB 2 support.

Well then, I must've been a speciall case then, since I have no SP1 installed, and the same software offered me to install the USB2.0 Patch.

From the Nvidia nForce 2.45 drivers page:

" Installation Notes

Windows XP users must install Service Pack 1 prior to attempting to install this package. Failure to do so will result in the inability to support USB 2.0. "

I suspect that it would have installed the patch, but without SP1, it would not have enabled USB 2.

Thanks for replying, guys.

The previous driver kit was straight from nVidia, and I did not use the SW IDE driver.

I've heard it's custard to just install straight over the previous install, provided you're using nVidea's driver package.

If this means "appropriate" or something similar then yes you are right. Be that as it may, it is always best to do a full clean install of windows. This way you eliminate the possibility of bad registry entries or leftover files from previous driver installs causing instabilities and such.

My plan if I were you: back up all files (docs/pics/downloads) and then apply the new driver pack. If it works right, BONUS! If it flubs, wipe and reinstall. Good luck.

You don't need to have SP1 installed first. I installed the Nvidia drivers first because I couldn't use the LAN until the drivers were installed.

Anyhoo, once you install SP1, just go into device manager and go to properies of the USB and tell it to update the drivers automatically. It will then install USB 2.0 drivers.

Well, I've been told by many the easiest way to install these drivers is to simply install over the previous install. So, I just installed the 2.45 kit over the previous release. Everything seems to be working fine, however, when I open the SoundStorm Control Panel I get a dialogue box saying, "An unsupported operation was attempted." I click OK and the control panel opens, but the main tab is completely blank. The rest of the panel remains intact.

I should mention I've updated the audio drivers via Windows Update in the past.

What gives?

Nevermind, I needed to install the International set because I don't have US English set as my default language.

It is recomended you install SP1, for most users who do not know about patches... but, beleive me: you can. IF you doubt once more, you could try it on your own.

brigden: There you go; now you are a unified driver installer specialist.

Sorry, did not mean to imply that SP1 needed to be loaded before the drivers. Only that SP1 needs to be loaded to enable USB 2 support.
