Metal has died. The good news is there is sooooo much good stuff from the late, late 60's to the early 90's.

Nickelback has nothing to do with metal. I can fart better sounding music.

Machine Head - Through the Ashes of Empires is an incredible album.

Anything by Opeth = Win.
And flame me, but I really liked Stone Sour.

Isn't the drummer for Iced Earth (at least former) Richard Christy who's now on Howard Stern?

Machine Head - Through the ashes of empires
Dark Funeral - Diabolis Interium
Slayer - God Hates Us All
Dimmu Borgir - Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropy
Marduk - Plague Angel

While I like more than just black metal (hence machine head and slayer in the list), black metal albums have been my favourite for the last few years.

Opeth is the band I though of too. But those of you trashing rock, realize that while there aren't too many great metal bands left, there are some GREAT rock bands out there worthy of respect. Among them:

Queens of the Stone Age
System of a Down (Who called them metal? They're not metal!)
Sevendust

Down
Tool
Disturbed
Mudvayne

Thats all I can think of for the last several years. It has not been a good five years for metal.

I won't classify anything as metal, hard rock, whatever. People are too uptight about thinking something is not metal or something is nu-metal, etc.

In the last 5 years I've liked songs/albums from these bands:

AFI
AM I BLOOD
Element Eighty
Disturbed
Drowning Pool
Disturbed
Slipknot
Staind
Stone Sour
Seether
Sinch
DryCell
Godsmack
LimpBizkit
Marilyn Manson
Metallica
Megadeth
Mudvayne
Nothing Face
Nickelback
Linkin Park
Papa Roach
Offspring
Saliva
Taproot
Nevermore
Three Days Grace
Puddle of Mudd
Pennywise
Chevelle
Flaw
Adema
Pressure 45

A whole bunch more...
