Hi ,I am building a new system and so far I have chosen the processor AMD Athlon II X4 620 and the motherboard which is ASUS M4A785TD-M EVO 785G, this is the link for the motherboard info:

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/170277

The main reason for this post is that I need info on the types of memory that can run on that motherboard, I want to run 2x2GB sticks of ram at 1600GHz. Now the problem is that I am totally new to computer building and totally new to overclocking seeing that you have to overclock to reach those kinds of speeds on any AM3 motherboard, that comment leads me onto my first question, how easy is it to do that with RAM that is tested to run at 1600MHz?

My second question is that what memory manufactures to choose, these are the sites I am willing to buy from:

All I what is that the memory to come with a lifetime warranty and I what it to be able to run with Intel and AMD motherboards due to future upgrades.

Final question if it says that the memory kit is said to be designed for the i5 does that mean it will only work with Intel i5

Oh, if I have not used the right terminology I am sorry and please feel free to correct me.

Thanks James

For RAM, it is usually best to get the fastest RAM you can afford. Do not fall for RAM that needs a ton more voltage to get to that fast speed though. If you do want to o/c, then you want to bump up the voltage yourself.
That board uses DDR3 dimms, so you are pretty much good to go with that, and that should work in any intel based motherboard that uses DDR3 as well.

When they say designed for anything, that is usually marketing talk. AFAIK, i5 needs DDR3 dual channel memory, the same as what that board you list wants. The i7 wants DDR3 triple channel (which means it wants 3 dimms instead of 2)

As long as the RAM has a good lifetime warranty, achieves the rated speed without requiring more voltage than what is default, then I would get whatever brand.

Hope that helps a bit.

Thanks for the reply Elixer that?s made a few things a bit more clear, I have had a look round and I have made a list of three memory makers that I might choose from.

Patriot G Series AMD 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-12800 1600MHz
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/...01&catid=8&subcat=1387 £73.99 inc VAT

G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C7 1600MHz
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/...01&catid=8&subcat=1387 £73.99 inc VAT

Corsair Dominator XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600C9D
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/...01&catid=8&subcat=1387 £84.98 inc VAT

At the moment I am leaning towards the patriot G series because they seem to have the lowest Latency (7-7-7-20), but they say designed for the AMD backed edition, does that mean they will only work with AMD black processors and not anything else i.e. Athlon ii or they don?t work on a Intel motherboard, also this is just probably some of my noob side shining thorough, they say that they have been tested on the fx/gx chipsets will they work on the 785g.

If the patriot memory doesn?t work on both Intel and AMD motherboards I will purchase the G.Skills.
